Hello Grandview families,
It was great to welcome the students back after a well-deserved Spring Break.
I hope everyone enjoyed the reprieve from the routine.
First, we are excited to announce that we have three Pennsylvania State Reflections contest winners! This opportunity is provided by our PTA to recognize access to the arts. This year's entry theme was, “I am hopeful because…”. Congratulations to Aubrey Eaton (Literature), Ruth Carter, (Music) and Heiwa Schneider (Music)! We are so proud of all our students who took the time to show off their talents. I would also like to thank Mrs. Burillo and Mrs. Muller for managing this wonderful opportunity.
The Natural Wonderers Club enjoyed a game day and followed up on the Symbolic Monarch Migration project from the fall. Their butterflies made it as far away as Texas, and they received new paper monarchs from all over the country! Their large ambassador butterflies went to Niños Héroes Elementary in Mexico, near the monarch sanctuaries. Students there wrote to the club about their inspiring efforts in water conservation and monarch habitat preservation. Now the Grandview Natural Wonderer "Bees" are even more excited to plant new pollinator plants around the Monarch Waystation here in May!
Today we celebrated Autism Acceptance Month for Neurodiversity Day by wearing Rainbow/Tie Dye. Please join us next Friday, April 19th for Sensory Friendly Day. Students may dress in their comfiest clothes or pajamas! Just a reminder that the Autism Walk will take place on Saturday, April 27 at 9:30 am at Lake Erie Speedway.
In just one week, students in grades 3-5 will begin taking the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA). The tests will begin the week of April 22 and continue through the week of April 29 - May 3. As a means of preparing your child for the test, the following suggestions are recommended.
- Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep.
- It is important to eat a healthy breakfast on each day of testing.
- Encourage your child to do their best.
- Your child has the ability to do well. Remind them to remain confident and remain calm.
- Please avoid scheduling any appointment or family trips during school hours within the assessment window.
- A healthy snack is appreciated by your child and will be used during test breaks.
Now that we are rejuvenated and back in the swing of things, it is time to get focused with less than one quarter left to go. Together, I know, we can make it a success! Let’s keep the kiddos happy, healthy, and motivated to do their best!
Have a BEE-utiful weekend!
