Principal's Note
Plans continue to move ahead for our construction this summer to build a secure entrance at Prairie View. Starting for the 2019-2020 school year, visitors will enter directly into the new front office and not have access to the school until signing in. The construction will begin as soon as school is over and be finished close to the start of school. Our Open House has been scheduled for Thursday, August 29, 2019, in order to allow for as much time as possible to move into our new spaces and be ready to greet families for the start of the new school year. Please contact me with any questions you may have or attend a PTO meeting to get updates on the construction plans.
Parking Lot Procedures for AM Drop off
-Please have your child ready to exit the car on the curb side. It slows the line down quite a bit when parents need to get out and walk a child around. If you need to let your child out the other side of the vehicle, please pull over to our visitor parking and walk your child to the sidewalk.
--Please have your student ready to exit the vehicle. Many times students are still gathering items in the back seat or putting on hats and mittens when the vehicle comes to a stop. Things move along better when students are ready to exit the car right away.
--Please have your student exit the vehicle any time that your car is on the red line. If everyone pulls students right up to the door to exit, drop off will take much longer. Once the vehicle is by the red curb, students can exit and cars can pull away, making the line move quicker.
--Leave the house so you are dropping off prior to 8:30. Many days cars are still pulling into the parking lot at 8:31 or later. While adults stay outside to let in students, students are still tardy at this time on days the weather has not been an issue.
Unfortunately, the PVES parking lot does not have many options for making this process smoother, but everyone playing their part can move things along much faster. We appreciate everyone playing their part to make this process efficient so students are inside the school and learning by 8:30.

Playground to Pills Program
There's no denying that heroin use and the abuse of prescription drugs is a serious problem in the country, in the state, and in our own community. In the past 10 years, drug overdose has overcome traffic fatalities to become the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. In Wisconsin, heroin-related drug cases increased 419% over a six year period. Locally, Naloxone (Narcan) is being administered by Mukwonago EMS every three weeks to revive someone suspected of opioid overdose.
Ignoring these powerful facts doesn't benefit anyone... least of all our students who are clearly encountering heroin and opioid painkillers at alarming rates and at earlier ages. Our school district believes that proactive education and conversation about the risks of substance abuse is important for the health of our community, especially with our younger students before they start down the path toward addiction.
To that end, we have partnered with Your Choice, Inc. and several community organizations to host a program called Playgrounds to Pills. This event will take place at the Greenwald Foundation Performing Arts Center at Mukwonago High School on Wednesday, February 27 at 6:30 pm. A resource fair will be held onsite from 6:00 to 6:30 pm. The event is open to adults and children age 12+. Childcare is available on-site for children ages 4-12.

Vision and Hearing Screening
Vision and hearing screens will take place at Prairie View on Wednesday, February 27th. First graders will receive vision and hearing screenings, and kindergarten, third and fifth graders will receive vision screening.
Your child will receive a copy of the screening results. The form will indicate if no further evaluation is needed or if follow up is recommended with physician, optometrist, or audiologist for further evaluation. Results will be documented in your child’s school health record and available to parent/guardian upon request.
If you have a child in second, fourth, or sixth grade and feel they would benefit from a vision or hearing screen at this time, please contact Mrs. Fendryk, PVES Health Assistant, to request for your child(ren). Thank you.

Specials Report - Library Class - Mrs. Perkins
Fifth grade has been working on using the Design Thinking Process to build vehicles and restraint systems with our VEX kits. They have tested these kits by creating a restraint system for a plastic egg. They had their car (with an egg passenger) ride down an inclined plane and run into a solid object. After the collision, students must make sure that the car and egg are safe and unharmed! Check out these videos to see fifth graders testing their creations!
