Eid Al-Adha Dinner
Hosted by the Nazareth Muslim Student Association
Eid Mubarak!
Tonight, beginning at sun down, Muslims around the world will celebrate a second Eid holiday and final celebration of the year is called Eid Al-Adha. The first Eid holiday, Eid al-Fitr, began at sundown on July 5 ending Ramadan. This Eid commemorates the completion of the Hajj pilgrimage. Although only pilgrims in Mecca participate in the Hajj fully, Muslims around the world join them in celebrating Eid Al-Adha.
Eid-ul-Adha ('festival of Sacrifice'), also known as the Greater Eid and is the second most important festival in the Muslim calendar. The festival remembers the prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son when God tested him. The story tells how the devil tempted Ibrahim by saying he should disobey Allah and spare his son. As Ibrahim was about to kill his son, Allah stopped him and gave him a lamb to sacrifice instead. Rewarding him for his trust and faith.
