Request for Help - Appropriate Use of Cell Phones
This week, we received a series of prank calls to the office during the school day. These calls, placed from a cell phone, claim to be reporting a medical emergency various classrooms. We were able to identify the student making the calls, and the appropriate disciplinary consequence was administered. To be transparent, placing a hoax call like this is a level 3 referral, which carries with it out of school suspension and a recommendation for expulsion. We take these situations very seriously, and students may not stop to consider the disruption such a call creates when we must activate our emergency medical response team.
Now is a good time to reinforce family expectations for the responsible use of wireless communication devices and social media, as well as checking in on your student's use of wireless communication devices. We thank you for partnering with us to keep our students safe and focused on their academic and social growth in positive ways. This article, from Common Sense Media, offers a perspective on how to set those expectations for school aged children.
Dual Enrollment Summer Registration Information
The Summer 2024 PHSC Online Registration Worksheet is now available on our Pasco DE webpage with important upcoming dates and deadlines for Summer Registration.
- Completion of the Student Orientation online is also REQUIRED for all DE students. Students who have not completed this course will not be able to register for Summer courses. Visit https://admissions.phsc.edu/start/high-school/dual-enroll/faq to access directions on how to complete the orientation.
- Please note that students who are taking an online course for the first time must complete the online readiness course through Canvas. Completion of the PHSC online readiness course is required prior to registering in any online dual enrollment courses. We highly encourage all students to access and complete the online readiness course now.
- Summer 2024 Online Request Form (Dynamic Form), will be available by Monday, February 26th and can be found here.
Dual Enrollment Registration Information
Eligible high school students may choose to take dual enrollment courses during the 2024-2025 school year. We will offer the required Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) this spring to assist students with the registration process for PHSC or USF. Angeline Academy of Innovation will appear as a school choice within the PHSC system after March 4, for students to begin requesting fall courses.
More information about dual enrollment options is available here: https://www.pasco.k12.fl.us/oll/page/dual-enrollment
Car Rider Reminder
Please make arrangements to ensure that your students are picked up by 3:00 PM daily. We no longer have after school programs on campus, and do not have supervision available. We are happy to arrange bus passes if your student needs transportation to their local bus hub. Or maybe have them try out for track? 🏃🏃♀️
Test Prep Resources
We would like to share a resource called Lexia Power Up that can help your child be more successful and earn a level 3 on the end-of-the-year FAST assessment. I am attaching a video and additional attachments regarding the program.
Your child can log into the program in their myPascoConnect. After the initial placement test, they should plan to spend about 20-25 minutes a day working in the program to improve their reading skills. We appreciate your support in helping your child be a more successful reader.
You can see how the program works here:

5 Things You Should Never Say to Your Child
There are times when I think Pixar gets things exactly right. In the 2006 movie Cars, there’s a moment when Lightning McQueen looks at Sally, the Porsche he’s trying to impress, and says “I create feelings in others that they themselves don't understand.” That one sentence encapsulates my experience of being a dad. There are moments I experience love, joy, and pride in who my kids are becoming. Other moments, I can’t believe what’s going on in my house, and before I know it, something crazy is coming out of my mouth. While some of them are funny, these are some of the things you should never say to your child (but probably wish you could).
Huddle up with your kids and ask, “When you have a hard time getting along with someone, what do you do?”
