Gallatin High Weekly Update
Week of September 28, 2020
General Overview
We recognize that this has been a challenging start to the school year. However, we want to reinforce that by communicating with each other and working together, we can support our GHS students in pursuing the best possible education in these most uncertain circumstances. In the face of challenge, when things are feeling out of our control, it is often empowering to think about the things we can control. Here is a great resource about how you can help frame the current challenges for your students. Also, here is a short video (5 min) video that can help all of us train our brain to deal with the traumatic stress associated with a global pandemic. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to a teacher, counselor, dean or administrator.

Canvas and Grade Information
- We are still working on the technical side of connecting the Canvas gradebook to Powerschool. In the meantime, all grades will be viewable and updated in PowerSchool. Please do not use the Canvas gradebook feature to access accurate grades.
- We are noticing a lag time between when assignments are submitted in Canvas and when the submission appears in the student view. Please be aware that submitted assignments may not show up in Canvas for teachers for 1-2 hours. Teachers will then need to grade the work before entering the grades in PowerSchool.
- If you have any questions about grades or assignments, first check PowerSchool and then contact the teacher.
- Please remember that all students should be logging into Canvas, completing assignments, and participating in any synchronous activities on the days they are remote learning.
Canvas
- To pair with your student's Canvas page, please follow these instructions.
- For general Canvas questions, please access these resources here.
- Some issues can be solved by ensuring your are logging in to the correct screen (see images below).

- Most Canvas questions can be resolved by following Steps 1 and 2 below:

Mental Health Awareness Week - October 4-10
This week (Sunday, October 4th-Saturday, October 10th) is Mental Illness Awareness Week. Every year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and participants across the country participate in efforts to educate the public on the reality of living with a mental health condition. The theme of this year’s Mental Illness Awareness Week is, “What People with Mental Illness Want you to know.” Visit NAMI for more information on its national initiatives.
This Thursday, October 8th is National Depression Screening Day. This is an opportunity to recognize the impact that depression and mental health challenges have on our community, to access support for ourselves or for our loved ones, and to fight back against stigma. On October 8th, local mental health support agencies will be operating booths around Gallatin County (including in downtown Bozeman) to provide education about depression and offer screenings. Confidential online screenings for depression, anxiety, addiction, and other mental health challenges are also available through Mental Health America Screenings.
Other information about mental health supports available in our community or to be connected to resources, contact Montana 2-1-1.
