Millersville Elementary
March 2024
WORDS WITH WILSON
Dear Parents,
We are continuing to work on our mission (our why), vision (our how), and collective commitments (how to fulfill our mission and achieve our vision) :
Mission - Millersville Elementary is committed to building a strong foundation by educating the whole child to ensure high levels of learning for all.
Vision - To achieve our mission at Millersville Elementary, we are committed to functioning as a Professional Learning Community. We envision a school where all staff:
Has a personal commitment to educating the whole child: academically, emotionally, physically, and socially.
Use data to frequently monitor student progress and use that data to guide our instruction
Work together in collaborative teams both vertically and horizontally
Involve all stakeholders to achieve smart goal growth.
Collective Commitments -
We will seek help when needed.
We will support each other through challenges and celebrate successes.
We will collaborate often, with student growth in mind.
We will collaborate both vertically and with our West Lane grade level colleagues.
We will analyze student performance data to make adjustments to our lessons.
We will implement, with fidelity, district/state curriculum with district provided, researched based materials. We will pay attention to students' individual needs (remediation and enrichment).
We will monitor, use, and share data in a timely and effective way. Data will be used to drive our instruction, interventions, and extensions. We will reflect on data to check student progress and follow up with actionable steps.
We will meet every student where he/she is academically, emotionally, physically, and socially.
We believe that all students can reach high levels of learning.
We have a shared responsibility in ensuring the success of each student academically and behaviorally.
I am happy to report that we have seen an increase in students reading on or above grade level from August to March. This is great news! If you want to help at home, just read WITH your child and TO your child...let your child choose any topics of books that they want. Help to instill in them a love for reading. Ask them questions about characters and setting in the books...this will help them for further investigations at school.
Even with progress, we are still continuing to push every child to their potential. In order to do this, we need your help. We strongly suggest that you ensure your student is here every day and on time to receive instruction. If possible, please schedule appointments and vacations when school is out. In most classes, reading instruction begins promptly in the morning. Students go to their classrooms at 7:30 AM each morning. Teachers are working diligently to teach the curriculum set by our state and district while meeting the students on their learning level. We need your help reinforcing this at home. You may help your student learn their math facts, conduct fun science experiments while talking about the scientific process, read books, play learning games, or complete suggested activities sent home by the teacher.
With your help, we plan to meet our goal by the end the year of having every child read at his/her grade level and above.
Please plan to attend the Prop T informational meeting on Thursday, March 14 at 6PM here at Millersville. Tell any friends and family you have in the community - all are welcome.
As always, feel free to reach out to me with questions or concerns at swilson@jr2mail.org or text/call at 573-987-0618.

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
How many seasons are in a year? Five of course: Flu, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter!!! We are currently working our way out of Flu season. January and February were tough on a lot of us. Remember to keep your child home if they are sick. They must be fever free for 24 hours without medication to return. If they have vomiting and/or diarrhea they need to stay home until they have had no more episodes for 24 hours. Good handwashing and covering your cough help prevent the spread of germs. Be sure to practice with your child at home.
If your family or children are in need of household supplies like toilet paper or cleaners, laundry products, or toiletries please contact me or fill out the google form. We have a well stocked closet thanks to many great donations. All requests are confidential.
