What is your family’s New year tradition?
Harbin Ice Festival, China: Christmas Day - Feb. 28th
If you’re a fan of Frozen, put this Chinese January festival on your list. Each year around Christmas Day right through to February 28th, hundreds flock to the town of Harbin in Heilongjiang province. It’s here that people showcase their sculpting skills for the annual display of the world’s best ice and snow sculptures.
And I’m not just talking small snowmen, people make whole buildings, towers and palaces big enough for visitors to walk into. At night they’re all lit up and create what feels like an entire city of icy magic.
I don’t think you’re getting much closer to Elsa than that.

Now enrolling NEW STUDENTS for the 2023-24 school year!
Do you know someone who would be interesting in joining D6 Online Academy for the 2023-24 School Year? Please share the information below!
2023-24 OPEN ENROLLMENT IS NOW UNDERWAY FOR ALL SCHOOLS
Beginning Tuesday, November 1, Greeley-Evans School District 6 will accept applications for students who want to attend a school that is outside their boundary area.
Any parent or guardian interested in enrolling their child in a school outside their home boundary for the 2023-2024 school year must apply during the open enrollment period, which is November 1, 2022, through December 15, 2022. While District 6 is able to accommodate most open enrollment requests, it may not be able to approve requests for enrollment into schools, specific grade levels or special programs that are at or above capacity or cannot fulfill the specific needs of the student.
Parents will be notified via email of their student(s) open enrollment status prior to February 1, 2023. Parents have until February 28, 2023 to accept or deny an offer.
Students currently open-enrolled are eligible to stay at their current school through the highest grade offered at that school and do not need to apply yearly. Also, students approved for open enrollment to a school outside their home boundary, regardless of programming needs, will generally not be provided District 6 transportation services. Those open enrolling to the Tointon Academy of Pre-Engineering from outside the boundary may be eligible for transportation services. Anyone living outside Greeley-Evans School District 6 may open enroll into a District 6 school, but will not be eligible for district transportation.
All open enrollment applications are online. Find out more at www.greeleyschools.org/openenrollment.
Congratulations MS/HS Honor Students

New Attendance Procedure Change for 2nd Semester
Dear Families and Students,
During the first half of the 2022-2023 school year, students have been required to take their own virtual attendance and mark themselves present for classes by “checking in” through Infinite Campus. We chose this protocol because we wanted to ensure that students using Edgenuity could take their attendance for the asynchronous courses. With this ability, the system did not recognize the check-in, or students forgot to take their attendance. In addition, we discovered we could not differentiate between an absence and tardy, nor could teachers’ comments be viewable to families.
We have taken feedback from families, students, and teachers into consideration, and have made the decision to change the attendance protocol to a traditional system with the goal of being more transparent and less cumbersome.
During the second half of the 2022-2023 school year, we will be reverting back to the traditional attendance system where teachers are responsible for marking students as present, tardy or absent. Additionally, teachers’ comments for the students marked tardy or absent will be saved so that parents can reference the reasoning behind the students being marked as such. We will follow the guidelines for synchronous and asynchronous courses:
Synchronous (Live-Taught)
Teachers will be taking attendance immediately at the start of class.
Students who make it to class within the first 20 minutes of class will be marked tardy. Habitual tardies may result in disciplinary action.
Students who come to class more than 20 minutes late after the start of the class period will be marked absent per the attendance policy.
Asynchronous (Edgenuity)
Students should be active during their designated class period for at least 15 minutes on Edgenuity.
If a student does not meet the 15-minute minimum requirement, they will be marked absent.
If a student works outside of school hours after attendance has been posted, teachers will adjust attendance accordingly the next day in collaboration with our school secretary.
Teachers will make comments at the time they save attendance by explaining if the student is engaged or idled on Edgenuity.
Asynchronous (Personalized Learning-Middle School)
Students in this course MUST complete the Google Form that can be found in their Schoology page.
The Google Form MUST be completed when the class is scheduled.
If a student fails to complete the form, the student will be marked absent.
