In The Spotlight: Ms. Alegre
This week, it is our pleasure to introduce our International Baccalaureate Coordinator, Ms. Alegre.
When and why did you decide to become an educator? My mother was a teacher and she loved working with kids. I went to the same elementary school that she worked at and I remember seeing the way that her students would interact with her and the way that she cared for her them. I knew that this made her happy and fulfilled her life in so many ways. I always knew I wanted to follow in her footsteps and make an impact the way that she did.
If you were not working at a school, what would you be? An FBI agent/FBI interpreter. Ha!
What’s the most satisfying part of your job as our IB coordinator? One of the things I love the most about my job is that I am always learning something new. Every time I visit a classroom or I interact with our students, I am learning something different from our teachers or scholars and I enjoy that!
How do you think the MYP program will impact our school? In the words of Mrs. Glenn: “The MYP is the topping to our ice cream sundae.” I think our school and teachers are already doing great things with the implementation of their teaching strategies and approaches to learning. The MYP will add a little more “color” and “flavor” to our curriculum and will expand our learning horizons and global awareness.
What is your favorite memory at Franklin Academy? I miss my students from FA Cooper City Campus so much! I have so many wonderful memories with them that are dear to my heart: I have to say that I truly enjoyed seeing how they blossomed and went from not being able to speak a word or write a sentence in Spanish to writing extensive paragraphs and engaging in conversations with me. I remember showing off their projects and presentations with so much joy and pride! I loved seeing how much they enjoyed my class and how much they were learning in such a short period of time. Little things like that would truly make my day! Another favorite memory from last school year, was being able to immerse them in the culture and the language while we traveled through the South of Spain together. I will forever treasure these memories! They are all unforgettable and I look forward to making new memories here at FA Sunrise Campus.
Around Fraklin...
Last Thursday, I had the honor to attend the Broward Sheriff's Office Annual Memorial Service. This ceremony honored all those who lost their lives in the line of duty. One of our fourth grade students, Lauryn Edwards, opened this solemn ceremony by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. It was an amazing and emotional experience that I am so happy to have had the privilege to be a part of.
This past Thursday, a total of 140 stakeholders from grades fifth through seventh attended our Parent Academy Night. IB Coordinator, Ms. Alegre, introduced the International Baccalaureate program and the various aspects including what this program will look like for our staff, students, and families in the upcoming school year. Also, Mrs.Glenn and Mrs.Turay shared their knowledge of the IB program with the participants. We are so excited about entering the 2018-2019 school year in full IB mode!
