Colts,
During the first part of this week I had the chance to be off campus for some professional development requirements with other principals from around the metroplex. We had many opportunities to share about our districts and campuses. As I listened to my principal counterparts speak, I was quickly reminded of what a great district and school that our Colts have. When I talked about CMS, our focus and vision, my colleagues were struck with amazement to hear about all of the great things that our Colts have and do. The topic of state testing drove everyone of their conversations. When they asked me about the STAAR test I thought about the 100% of our Biology and Algebra students that passed that high school state test last year, but I also thought to myself that we are so much more than that and didn't even mention it. My reply to them was simple, I told them that I rarely talk about test scores at our school because our campus is so much more than a test score on one day during the school year. They were floored when I told them about our student focus, academic learner-centered environments, student voice, Gallup Strengths, successful UIL activities, and the many other daily successes that we have at CMS. Reminders like that is what makes me believe with absolute confidence that we have one of the best public middles schools around. I am proud to be a Colt and I appreciate the partnership that we have together to help be the BEST for our students!

UPCOMING Events
Student ID Badges
As we continue to refine our safety and security procedures across the District, there is a change going into effect that will impact all middle and high school students. Beginning this school year, students will be expected to wear their student ID badge above their waist during the school day. A few items to highlight:
CMS students received their ID badges, a lanyard, and a plastic holder this week.
If a student forgets their ID badge but knows where it is, they can receive a temporary ID for one day. If the ID is not returned at the end of the day the student will be charged $2 for the ID/Plastic Holder/Lanyard replacement.
If the student has lost their ID, they will need to get a replacement, which will cost $5. The student will be provided a temporary ID until their replacement ID is ready. The student will simply swap out badges at that time. If the temporary ID/Plastic Holder/Lanyard is not returned, the additional $2 fee will apply.
Students not wearing their ID badge visibly during the school day will be subject to discipline under the Student Code of Conduct.
Replacement Costs:
$1 - Plastic Holder
$2 - New COLT Lanyard
$5 - New ID Badge

Drop your kiddos off and step into the doorway.
Step one will be to fill out the Volunteer Background Check
Step two will be to sign up for a shift (or as many as you like) click the sign up genius here!

The top scoring male student and the top scoring female student have their applications and essays sent to Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation for the final judging. Applications and essays are due back to CMS 8th grade English teachers – Mr. Woolley or Mrs. Sloan by November 15th at 3:25. Please contact the counseling apartment for further questions.
