Letter From Your VP of Programs
Hi everyone, I am your VP of Programs. I am the Mom to a 1st grader and a 2 year old, and I love being able to volunteer my time with PTA. For both myself and my husband it is important for us to help out when we can.
Raising children takes a village, and in this month of Thanksgiving I am thankful for our Callison Village. PTA is nothing without all of our volunteers, teachers , staff and administrators. Without everyone's support and hard work there is no PTA. So thank you to everyone who gives their heart and soul to our children.
All that being said we could always use more volunteers. So if you have even just an hour and want to help please contact one of the PTA board members. Be a part of our PTA Village!
Happy Thanksgiving!
-Sara Gandaria-Escamilla

How long have you been a member of the PTA? This is my 4th year participating in PTA.
Why do you feel it's important to be a member of the PTA? I like staying involved with the school and like to know what is up and coming for the students.
What is your favorite PTA event? In the past it was movie night. I like the winter shopping vent for the kids and am looking forward to the Trunk or Treat this year!
Any advice for parent's on getting involved? PTA is a great way to stay involved with your kids and be a part of the Callison community!
Featured Sponsor
This Summer we wrote to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to ask if they could help with a donation to support the Callison PTA.They were kind enough to send us passes for 4 movie tickets, popcorn and fountain drinks!
This prize will be awarded to the winner of the FAVORITE TRUNK contest during our Trunk or Treat. The kids will be casting their votes for their FAVORITE TRUNK.
We are so grateful to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for giving us such a nice gift as a prize!
Your Callison PTA boards approaches many local businesses in hopes of donations and sponsorship. We look to foster partnerships with businesses who understand our mission to enhance the everyday school life of our students.
Callison PTA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit so any donations are tax-deductible.
If you have a business or would personally like to sponsor your PTA with a donation or gift, please contact Jessica at Callisonptatreasurer@gmail.com
We look forward to a great school year and we thank you for your support!
Box Tops
Callison PTA is solely funded by memberships, donations and fundraisers. One of our important fundraisers is BOX TOPS!
Last year we received almost $1000 for sending in Box Tops collected at Callison. It helped pay for so many things the Callison PTA did for our kids, teachers and staff.
Each BOX TOP you clip and turn in is worth 10 cents. Your student can turn them into their teacher or you can drop them off at the BOX TOPS box in the front office.
We are keeping track of all the Box Tops that each class turns in. The class that turns in the most will get a special treat at the end of the year!
Currently Ms. Ganong’s class is in the lead with 200 BOX TOPS! Great job! They are followed closely by Ms. Harris with 135 and Ms. Nagar with 132!
For more information about Box Tops contact our Box Top Cordinator Jessica Arceneaux at callisonptatreasuer@gmail.com or visit:

There is even an app for your phone to earn BONUS BOX TOPS! http://www.boxtops4education.com/bonusapp
We collect Box Tops ALL YEAR LONG so keep on clipping and turn them i.to your teachers
Stay Fit With Cal Club
by Nurse Linda Hughes, Health and Wellness Chair
The CAL CLUB challenge for November begins November 1st and runs until end of the month. In the spirit of Thanksgiving we are asking the students for each day in the month of November, write one thing that they are thankful for. This can be something big or small, it can be someone or something that has happened or going to happen. Being thankful , as well as thinking about and sharing what we are thankful for is healthy for our hearts. LET”S BE HEART HEALTHY TOGETHER!! The journals will be placed in the teacher mailboxes, please hand them out to your CAL CLUB students and return them to the clinic by December 7th.
Vision and Hearing screenings will take place November 3rd and 4th in the science lab and A213 , all day. Only those in 2nd and 4th and EE to KG will be screened (4yrs and up) and those new to district. We will come to your class and escort the children to the screening.
If you any questions email Nurse Linda : linda_hughes2@roundrockisd.org
Nature Club
Callison Nature Club
November 19, 9-10:30 am
Join us for the first meeting of the Callison Nature Club! The goal of the club is for students and parents to spend time together outside, have fun, and learn something about nature. At each monthly meeting, we’ll spend a little time working in the gardens and cleaning up the school property. The rest of the time will be for nature observation and fun games. Optional supplies to bring: gloves for gardening/litter pick-up; a composition notebook or clipboard with paper for recording your observations.
School garden update
Our gardens are still getting lots of attention from the local butterflies. The small gray butterfly in the above picture (upper right corner) is a hairstreak. If you look closely, you’ll see that there are false antennae at the back of the butterfly’s wings. While it is feeding, the butterfly rubs its wings together, making the false antennae move. It hopes that birds and other predators will be fooled and attack the butterfly’s wings, letting the butterfly escape (mostly) unharmed.
As fall approaches, the number of flowers in the school gardens will slowly dwindle. We will cut back some of the plants as they settle down for the winter, but we will leave the stems of the purple coneflowers up. As you can see in the photo below, the dead flowers are full of seeds that will be important food for birds during the winter.
