East Hills Connections
School Year Edition: Issue 4: September 25, 2020
Connected. Together. Strong.
Hello Families,
October is right around the corner on our calendar, and it is hard to believe that September is just about over! None of us knew how our efforts would be realized during this very unpredictable time. We have all worked so hard and we are finally finding our groove! Navigation in Schoology, completing assignments, and communicating with teachers and students has become much easier and consistent.
We don't know about you, but our East Hills Family is happy to have a three day weekend to look forward to! Thank you "at home" families for helping students follow through with their online work; it has made all of the difference.
Enjoy your family time this weekend, we look forward to seeing the students online and in person again on Tuesday!
On an exciting note, we have a wonderful thing to celebrate: Dr. Collazo! She has earned her doctorate and we are incredibly proud of her!
Just another example of how we see the East Hills' Excellence everyday.
Connected. Together. Strong.
Be well,
Dave Horvath, Regina Braun, and Pat Tannous

BASD Attendance Information
Message to Parents/Students
The Pennsylvania Department of Education requires districts to report daily attendance in both the hybrid and e-Classroom instruction models.
All students whether in person or online will be required to complete a daily check-in assignment.
If a student fails to complete the daily check-in assignment, they will be marked absent for the day.
Middle school students need to complete their daily check-in assignment in Schoology every day. All middle school students must complete the daily check-in assignment by 3:00 p.m. The remainder of their daily assignments can be completed after 3:00 p.m.
If your child has a legitimate excuse for not completing their daily check-in assignment, e.g. doctor’s appointment, family emergency, etc. parents must submit an excusal note similar to past practice. However, notes can now be submitted electronically via email to your building’s attendance email address. Go to your school’s website to find your building’s attendance email address.
MEAL DISTRIBUTION UPDATE- FREE MEALS THROUGH 12/31!!
Hello, all. In addition to the recent good news that all meals may be served free of charge through December 31, 2020, I wanted you to be aware that there is also a slight change coming up for the Distribution schedule. In October, we have a non-instructional Monday on October 12. We will still be distributing meals for the week on that Monday, October 12, at our 5 usual sites: Broughal, Northeast, Donegan, Marvine, and Fountain Hill.
We will be distributing meals at our 5 usual distribution sites on all Mondays in October, including October 12.
As a side note: Please know that meals for e-classroom students no longer need to be pre-ordered. E-classroom families can stop at any of the 5 distribution sites to pick up meals for the school week: Broughal, Northeast, Donegan, Marvine, and Fountain Hill. As a reminder, meal pick-up is between 10:00 add and 11:30 am on Mondays. This has been communicated directly to each of the e-classroom parents through email.

Charger Challenge!
The Charger Challenge is the EHPA’s only traditional fundraiser for the entire school and
everyone’s participation is critical to its success whether your child is in the Hybrid Model OR
the E-Learning Model. The funds we raise will go towards needs for our students and teachers
throughout the year. This year the Charger Challenge will be VIRTUAL!!!! It will be fun and
exciting! Look for more information soon once all of the details have been finalized!!!!Some tips for our laptops from our terrific BASD Technology department!
ISD strongly recommends the following laptop and browser health practices to keep your laptop and browser working properly:
- Shutdown your computer daily, please do not just close the lid. Not shutting down your computer daily and just closing the lid will slow down your computer over time.
- Restart your computer weekly. Shutdown and restart are two different actions that complete different tasks between the laptop and our central management systems. If you do not restart weekly, this could cause your computer to not receive needed updates and also slow it down.
- Clear Browser Cache/History daily. Your browser caches error messages so you may think you're continuing to have an issue because you still see the error when really the error is resolved.
- Limit the number of browser tabs/windows open at once - one browser page creates numerous connections to the Internet. If you have many browser tabs/windows open this can slow response times.
BASD Transportation Message
BASD Families and Partners:
Greetings from the Transportation Department!
Our drivers and monitors are excited to welcome children back to school. We have spent countless hours preparing for the Fall semester. To aid in a safe return for your children and our staff, we are asking for your help! Please take note of the following expectations:
Face masks are required for all students at the bus stops and while riding.
Route times will fluctuate in the first couple of weeks of school, so please remember to arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes early. We will communicate route changes as they occur.
Students from the same household are expected to sit together whenever possible.
Show your bus pass each time you enter the bus.
Board the correct bus at the assigned stop.
Families who elected and have been approved by the principal for e-learning may still receive a bus pass even though not attending in-person classes. When e-learning students decide to return, there will be a seat available on the bus.
