ACT Update
Self-Directed Learning Success!
Self-Directed Learning is just one component of the Summit Learning system, and our students have made great strides so far this year in mastering the skills necessary to be self-directed learners. SDL focuses on teaching students how to set goals, prioritize responsibilities, manage time, develop note-taking skills, and apply Habits of Success while studying content needed for their class projects. This component counts for 30% of their grade in a course, whereas the projects completed in class count for a greater 70%. So far this year our students have passed 1,206 focus areas, which is an average of 20.8 focus areas per student.
6th Grade- passed 252 focus areas (12 students) = avg. 21.0
7th Grade- passed 220 focus areas (10 students) = avg. 22.0
8th Grade- passed 284 focus areas (10 students) = avg. 28.4
9th Grade- passed 130 focus areas (6 students) = avg. 21.7
10th Grade+- passed 320 focus areas (20 students) = avg. 16.0
Note: Some 10th Grade+ students are enrolled in fewer Summit courses.
We are very proud of our students for the growth they have shown in their responsibility, perseverance, and work ethic as a result of building their self-directed learning skills.
Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences
There will NOT be conferences for the middle school/high school at this time. Individual Plan of Study meetings will be held for these students in April.
WIG Pep Rally
The council members paired up to plan music, games, cheers, and treats. On January 28, these students led the pep rally entirely on their own. They are pleased to announce that their data has improved since the pep rally, and they are now on track to meet the WIG for this quarter!
Habit 6: Synergize
Students who synergize demonstrate the following skills:
* Value other people's strengths and learn from them.
* Get along well with others, even people who are different from them.
* Work well in groups.
* Seek out other people's ideas to solve problems.
* Show humility.
Also, check out the great new graphic below that reminds us about Habit 1: Be Proactive. Proactive people focus their efforts within their Circle of Influence, or what they can control, rather than focusing on what they cannot control.
Winter Homecoming
High school student council and cheerleaders did a fabulous job coordinating the week's activities including dress up days, seminar games, the pep rally, and the homecoming dance and game night. Thank you to all who contributed to a wonderful week!
