Cedar Grove Friday Flash
April 5, 2024
Dear Cedar Grove Families:
Welcome back! We hope you and your family enjoyed spring break and were able to spend time with family or friends.
In preparation for the Solar Eclipse this coming Monday, April 8, 2024, our PTA is providing NASA approved viewing glasses for all the students and staff so our classes can experience hands-on science learning. Our classes are planning on going outside to view the eclipse on April 8th in conjunction with science instruction during the afternoon. More information can be found here regarding the solar eclipse. If would prefer that your child does not go outside to view the eclipse, please complete this FORM and we will have an alternate solar eclipse viewing activity for our students in our cafeteria. If you are unable to complete, the form, please feel free to contact our school office at 240-740-6190 and we will record for you. Please contact us if you have any questions.
As a reminder, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be taking the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) assessments in Math this Monday and Tuesday mornings. Please be sure your child is well rested for these assessments, enjoys a healthy breakfast, and arrives to school on time.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Jansson's Park
Jansson’s Park is in April during National Park Week. Students get to learn about the differences between national, state, and county parks. Students also get to engage in different park activities like orienteering, fishing, hiking, disc golf, bike safety, camping, cross country skiing, birding, and much more.
My goal is for the students to gain an appreciation, enjoy, and have a respect for the outdoors. Hopefully it will encourage students to get their families out and visit a park.
Mr. Jansson
Career Day
Career Day is scheduled for June 5th and our students are excited! Here are some jobs they are hoping to hear about: doctor, engineer, plumber, entrepreneur/business owner, chef, vet, police officer, pet sitter, scientist, dentist and realtor! Can you or a friend or family member volunteer for this event? If so, please click the link to sign up is below. Please contact Mrs. Spoales if you have any questions.
Kindergarten Registration and Welcome
The registration window for new kindergarten students opens this Monday, March 18 and continues through April 12, 2024. If you have a child who will be turning five on or before September 1, 2024, please contact Mrs. Noreen Fair at 240-740-6190 to register your child. You may also register online through the ParentVUE portal. If your family is new to MCPS, you will need to create a ParentVue account here. For more information about eligibility and the registration process, visit the MCPS Kindergarten Enrollment webpage or contact the school office.
In addition, please save the date of May 9 for our Kindergarten Welcome, which replaces the traditional MCPS kindergarten orientation that previously took place during the school day. Two information sessions at 4:30-5:00 and 5:15-5:45 will be provided to families. If you know of any friends or family members who have a rising kindergarten student, please share this information with them. Thank you.
Reminder - Chromebooks for Home Use
We know that there is the possibility that MCPS will move to virtual learning should we have additional closures due to snow. If this occurs, it is important for children to have a device from which they can access learning on those days. If you do not have a device at home, this is the time to order one from our central office, as Cedar Grove will not be sending devices home. Please complete the Chromebook Form to Distribute to Families to request a home use Chromebook. It takes some time to get the home use device sent to Cedar Grove to distribute to your children, so please consider that when you decide to request a home use device.
Grade Level Newsletters
Parents, please click on your child's grade level to view class weekly newsletters. Any questions regarding the content of the newsletters should be directed to your child's teacher. Thank you.
