MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 9/17/18
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
- Not everything happens in September. Our goals are to get to know kids (baseline, strengths, needs, interests) and to establish instructional routines in order to have a successful school year.
- Promise Standards & Assessments: Most of the assessments are not new. What's new will be how we track and respond to student success throughout the school year.
- Don't worry about using the 15-day challenge format for every unit you teach this year; start with the one that's next. Our goal isn't recording for recording sake. It's better to start at the front and move forward than backtrack and write down something you've already done.
- PPG/SLO can be connected with promise standards and our school goals. The baseline assessments many of you are doing (running records in math and reading, STAR, etc) could be great tools to craft your SLO.
- We'll work more as a group on GRASPS after we get our other foundations solid.
When/if we start to spin, let's support each other in keeping the main thing the main thing. We're here on the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learning and a caring, contributing citizen.
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- Our EAs (Alex, Crystal, Anna, and Genesie) will start their semi- permanent schedules on Monday. It is on the 2nd tab of this document: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PNvjs8vITf-3NYZFH8ngcssMC5oyJsYO2W6hIbQxEMc/edit?usp=sharing. Please take a look. If you are not yet using Tiger Time to reteach/extend, please have plans for what the EAs should do to support. Who should go where? Which students should they support? How should they support?
- The STAR window opens 9/17. Please aim to have tested your students before our first data days (10/2--2nd and 5th, 10/3--1st and 3rd, 10/4--4th and 5K). Please log in and check your roster. If you do not have a login, or if there are errors in your roster, email jczubkowski@greenfield.k12.wi.us.
- On Mondays, you'll find 10 Apaws in your mailbox. We'll aim to put them there each week to help remind us all to continue to notice and reinforce respect and other acts of character.
- For our Wednesday AM Collaborative Team meetings, just come on in and get to work. We won't have a group start/intro. You might be working on rounding out the work to your promise standards, or you may be launching into an upcoming unit. Be prepared to do the work that's needed at your grade level. Chris, Maria, Kathy, Jenna, Jennifer and I will be around to support/talk as needed.

ELL Tip of the Week
Please check out the ELL tip of the week. Many ELL strategies can be beneficial for all of our students. Using sentence frames is a way to help kids get started with their thinking and writing. It is also a great way to model proper sentence structure. The video link is two minutes long.

Upcoming Data Days (See Specific dates below)
What data will we use to make this decision?
- STAR scores for Grades 2-5 (the window opens 9/17; please have your students tested by your data day)
- Running Record information: What are specific strengths and areas of need for these students? (You may not have done a running record for everyone by this date, but you should have done one for the students you know/have a hunch are below).
- Baseline assessments you've done related to your promise standards
At our next round in December, we'll focus on our students who are approaching/surrounding benchmark. In March, we'll revisit our students significantly below. '
