IRead Testing
The IREAD3 test is a standardized reading test given to all 3rd grade students in the state of Indiana. The test has three sections covering phonics, reading comprehension, and other reading skills.
We will take one test section each day on Tuesday (15th), Wednesday (16th), and Thursday (17th).
It is very important that each student gets ample sleep as well as a healthy breakfast on the testing days.
If your child received small group testing during ISTEP+, they will receive the same support during our IREAD3 testing.
Upcoming Third Grade Testing Calendar:
- IREAD3 testing (computer): week of March 14th - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
- ISTEP+ computer testing: late April/early May - schedule to be determined
- NWEA Spring Testing (computer): May - schedule to be determined

Workshops
Writer's and Reader's Workshop: Biographies: We are continuing our study of Malala. We will also expand our understanding of Biographies by exploring a plethora of biographies I've checked out from the Library. Within the next few weeks we will also spend some time in the netbook lab searching a few websites that Mrs. Hicks has compiled for us that have good information about biographies. We will also interview each other and write a brief "biography" of our classmates focusing on the elements that would be included in a biography.
Math Workshop: We took our fractions assessment and our next big unit of study is geometry. We will be looking at 2 dimensional shapes with a special focus on their attributes.
Science: We will begin our unit on Plants. We will be growing plants in the classroom. Students will learn the parts of a plant and their functions. Plant growth and development is also a topic we will be learning about and discussing as we watch our plants grow. We will investigate plant growth over time and as we record and graph our data we will examine factors that might influence growth.
