Bethel-Tate Schools Tiger eNews
October 2020
It has been a great start to the 2020-21 school year. As we head into October and the second quarter, we are grateful for how well the school year and athletics are going. Our staff and students have been diligent about following the health and safety protocols that are in place. The masking, physical distancing, commitment to handwashing/sanitizing, and cleaning protocols are working. Thank you for the work you have done at home with your children to make this transition easier. Our virtual students are also doing well in their online classrooms and the transition to full-time online learning.
We know that the in-person or the virtual learning option may not be working well for all students. Parents will have the opportunity to change their child's learning models for the second semester. A survey will go out mid-October about our learning modes and give you the opportunity to keep or change your current selection. For planning purposes, final commitments for the second semester will be needed by November 30, 2020.
Thanks for your support of Bethel-Tate Schools!

Bethel-Tate Senior Named National Merit Commended Student
Although he will not continue in the 2021 competition for the National Merit Scholarship, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scores of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT).
Board Seeking Parents to Serve on Strategic Planning Committee
Parent input is needed as the Board discusses the current mission and vision, sets goals, decides on actions to achieve those goals, and mobilizes the resources needed to take those actions to provide the best learning opportunities for our Bethel-Tate students.
The strategic planning committee will meet once a month on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. at Bethel-Tate High School. Safety measures will be in place for these in-person meetings with social distancing and face masks required.
If you are interested in serving on the committee or learning more, please email Bethel-Tate Superintendent Melissa Kircher at kircher_m@betheltate.org.
Bethel-Tate Participates in Annual Day of Giving
Bethel-Tate High School's National Honor Society is helping to coordinate a district-wide service project involving all our school building through WLWT's annual Day of Giving to be held on October 8.
On October 8, during the school day, each of our schools will be accepting donations in the drop off boxes located in the vestibules/front offices. All items donated will remain in our community and given to Bethel families in need.
What is needed
- Personal hygiene: female items (pads/tampons), deodorant (men/women), soap, shampoo, socks, underwear
- Disposable masks
- Food: peanut butter crackers, single-serving cereal, single-serving oatmeal, granola bars
- School supplies: notebooks, markers, pencils, paper
Our National Honor Society members will sort, chart, and then equally redistribute the items across the four participating schools. Thanks in advance for your support!
Hill Intermediate Implements PBIS
Ebon C. Hill Intermediate School is implementing its Positive Behavioral and Supports (PBIS) program this school year. PBIS is a broad range of systemic and individualized strategies for achieving important social and learning outcomes in school communities while preventing problem behaviors. The key attributes of PBIS include preventive activities, data-based decision making, and a problem-solving orientation.
Why are we implementing PBIS? There are several reasons:
- To create a positive school climate
- To increase academic performance
- To reduce bullying behaviors
- To reduce problem behaviors
"We have been working hard to create our Show Your Tiger Pride brand. Our main focus is to teach our students to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be a Problem Solver," said Hill Principal, Matt Wagner.
According to Mr. Wagner, when students Show Their Tiger Pride by being respectful, responsible, and being problem solvers, they will receive acknowledgments. Students can receive individual acknowledgments such as being named Tiger of the Month, earning Tiger Pride at Work Paws, and much more. Each classroom can set a class goal to work toward each month. Additionally, we will have school-wide recognition for our students who are Showing Their Tiger Pride.
Parents can monitor their child’s behavior at school by downloading the PBIS Rewards Parent App. This app is a great way for parents to communicate with the classroom teachers as well as track the points their child is earning by being respectful, being responsible, and being a problem solver. Parents should contact their child’s teacher to learn more about this app.
"By working together, we can help each student learn what it means to Show Your Tiger Pride!" Mr. Wagner added.
BTMS Students Take Advantage of Outdoor Space for Learning
Students in Mrs. Patrick’s classroom read a play and had to come up with five questions that they would ask the main character. Students worked in pairs as one acted as the character and one as the interviewer.
