Performance Schedule and Run of Show
The Consuelo Mendez Heritage Festival, celebrating 30 years of Maverick PRIDE, kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on the evening of Friday March 3rd. The school was named after Consuelo Herrera Mendez, the first Latina teacher hired by Austin ISD in 1927. Consuelo Mendez was a champion for the education of all Spanish-speaking people and was first to translate the PTA newsletter to Spanish for her families in Austin. The middle school was named for her in 1987 and it is fitting that on our 30th anniversary, we honor Mrs. Mendez with a Heritage Festival to benefit the Consuelo Mendez Middle School PTSA. The event ends with a play honoring the life of Consuelo Mendez written by our Theater Director, Nina Bryant and performed by the Advanced Theater Class - featuring a surprise actress starring as Consuelo Mendez.
