A BIG Grizzly Bear Hug To:
Thank you to those of you who were able to join me at our SAC meeting here at school this last week, and to our amazing PTA board (Lucie C, Jayme R, Sarah A) and PTA membership for the support and planning that happens in these two amazing groups of GES Parents and teachers.
We had so much fun during National Math Storytelling Day!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Garfield Families,
Ownership. It's a word your child will hear often around GES this year. We want our students to own their successes and challenges (Academically and socially). We want students to know where they are, and where they want to be. We want our students to have a personal stake in the work they do, and the decisions they make.
You can join us in this work! What are some ways we can create students who take responsibility for their own learning and behaviors (successes AND challenges)?
- Be consistent with routines, procedures and expectations. Take the guesswork out of what is expected (voice, hands and feet) when you and your child enter a store or a classroom, or when it's bedtime.
- Include conversations about decisions made as your read together, "What would you do if you were in this (insert character)'s situation?
- Set goals (short or long term) with your student, check-in about them, and reflect on progress.
- Give responsibilities and chores- Our grizzlies are all learning independence and perseverance. Help your student complete tasks given from beginning to end (like cleaning their room).
One of the best parts about this school community is the partnership we have in raising, educating and supporting these little Grizzlies. If you would like to hear more about our school P.R.I.D.E values, please reach out.
One of my goals would be that you as parents know the language of our values so well, that you can talk them up in your homes!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Most Sincerely,
John Kleiber
Principal
