Totally Awesome Advisement
Ms. Caitlin Muse's students wrote examples of ways that they had been bullies in the past, and Ms. Muse encouraged them to apologize for their actions. (Can't wait to see if they really do it!)
Mr. Gabriel Lott's class volunteered the many ways they could encourage unity in their classroom, school and community. I heard them chatting and calling out examples. Each idea generated another one.
One of Ms. Leigh Barwick's students said that one teacher's greetings every day made her want to come to school. Ms. Barwick got that teacher (Coach Ryan Branch), and brought him to her room. Her student told Coach Branch that she loved to come to school because of the way he greeted her every day. Coach Branch told her that someone else had taught him the importance of that, and he encouraged the student to pay it forward.
I realize that we often think of advisement as "one more thing." Well, guys, sometimes that one more thing is very important and much needed.
Thanks for all you do to make our school a special place for kids AND adults. And thanks to Ms. Mary Guy and her Cool to Be Kind Club for generating the lesson.
BE THE CHANGE.
