Notes from the Principal
Dear JWE Friends and Families,
As we step into the month of March, I am thrilled to share some exciting highlights from our school community.
February School Community Events Recap:
We recently hosted a couple of enjoyable events organized by our PFO. The school dance and bingo night brought together students and families for some fun-filled evenings. A huge thank you to our dedicated PFO for their support in making these events possible.
Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTIi) at JWE:
I am pleased to announce that our school was awarded a three-year grant to support the implementation of Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTIi) through Oregon RTIi. This program involves teams of teachers, specialists, and administrators working together to evaluate our instructional practices and interventions, ensuring that we are effectively meeting the needs of our students. It is inspiring to see the progress our students have made, and we remain committed to continuously improving our support systems.
Everybody Reads Day:
March 1st is Everybody Reads Day, and John Wetten is gearing up for a day filled with literacy celebrations! We have invited guest readers from our local community to share beloved children's stories with our students. Additionally, we will be hosting a school-wide drop-everything-and-read event and various other engaging activities. We look forward to coming together as a school community to celebrate the joy of reading and promote literacy.
End of the 2nd Trimester:
March 7th marks the end of the second trimester. This milestone serves as an opportunity for parents to receive updates on their child's progress in their current grade level. It is important to recognize that students progress at different rates, and we are here to support each child's individual journey. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to help support your child further.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your student’s education.
Sincerely,
John McAndrews

Parent Faculty Organization (PFO) News
JWE Parents and Guardians,
Thank you all for attending the Valentine’s dance, what a great time! Unfortunately, we did experience some vandalism to one of the boys bathrooms so we would like to remind parents and guardians to please monitor your child/children during these events and to escort them to the restroom, if necessary. We love being able to host these events for the JWE community but respect for the school premises and staff is a requirement to continue future entertainment opportunities.
The PFO is also looking for volunteers to help with planning carnival games, prep, set-up, and tear down of the carnival on May 17th. If you are interested in assisting with any of those tasks please contact Jwepfo@gmail.com , any and all help is appreciated!!
Lastly, box tops are now at $405.50! So awesome!! We’d like to encourage you to download the Box Tops for Education app if you haven’t yet. When setting up your account enter the referral code: JE3T4GU0. It’s as simple as scanning your receipt after you shop!
Thank you,
The John Wetten PFO
Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey
Dear Students & Families,
Over the next few weeks, students grades 3-11 will be asked to take a short 10-15 minute survey (Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey). It is a state-developed survey that provides an opportunity for feedback and input so we can continue to improve as a school district.
The survey will ask students:
- About the kinds of activities they did in school this year
- What supplies they had to help with schoolwork
- How they felt about school and learning this year
- Any additional helpful information
Attached you will find the Annual Notice for the survey, an informational flyer that includes a QR code to review the survey, and the participation form. This Annual Notice has also been posted on the district and school websites.
If you have questions or concerns about the survey, please contact Petra Hoghova at hoghovap@gladstone.k12.or.us or 503-974-5076.
