Mrs. Stokes' Notes
Hello Chapman Families,
March was full of neat experiences for Chapman students. Big thank you to The Chapman Parent Group, Title I, and The Seward Sea Life center that made an overnight field trip possible for 2nd-4th grade students. Mrs. Fournier, Ms. Friendshuh, Mrs. Richards, and Nurse Joseph put a lot of time and thought into preparing for this trip. Parent volunteers did an excellent job helping facilitate this trip as well. It was a memorable learning experience that we hope to continue next year. The 8th grade also went on their field trip to Yellowstone. It was a week filled with wonder and exploration. Thank you to Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Hausler, and Trent Herbst for the planning and organizing this. While it was a giant undertaking, students grew together as a group, saw a new part of the world, and were able to see their science curriculum in action. We look forward to sharing photos and information about both trips in an upcoming family event. The final March happening that I would like to highlight is Samuel Smith’s stellar performance at the State Spelling Bee. He represented Chapman well with a top 20 finish. Way to go!
In the next few weeks, students will get to showcase all that they have learned this year and the progress they have made in academics. They will be participating in the final benchmark of the year. The results of these assessments are important for our school as this benchmarking set is the one that gets reported to the state and is used to compare the effectiveness of our school against others in the State and Nation. It is important that students take these assessments seriously and do their best. Chapman is confident in the education that is offered here and know that our students are well prepared for these assessments. You can help your kiddo reach their potential by ensuring that they are getting to bed on time, arriving to school on time, and keeping routines regular. Grades 3rd-8th will be testing at the beginning of the month and Kindergarten-5th MCLASS benchmarking will take place later in the month.
Finally, Chapman has some exciting news. Through fundraising and a generous donation from the Parent Group, swimming lessons have been organized for Chapman students in grades 2nd-5th grade. This is significant for our students. Many students and their families live, recreate, or work near the water. Knowing how to swim is a key to students staying safe. These swimming lessons will take place April 22nd-26th and May 1st -3rd. While funding was the first hurdle in making this happen, the final hurdle is finding volunteers who are willing to get in the pool with the kids and assist with the lessons. We are in need of at least 7 volunteers per day for the swimming lessons to happen. All volunteers must have their background screening passed prior to assisting. There will be more information to come on this, please consider volunteering when sign ups come out.
This is a great time to be a Chapman Eagle! There are so many neat things happening in our classrooms, in our school, and in our community. Keep Flying Strong!
With Warm Regards,
Mrs. Stokes

March Highlights
3rd Grade Space Reports
Third grade was learning about our solar system and we did a big research project! We each chose a topic; some of us chose an astronaut, planet, or satellite. Then each student used the Internet and books to conduct research on their topic and gather information. One they were finished, they designed a poster to display facts on their topic as well as graphics. They had to make their poster readable, engaging, and neat. They did a great job and created some amazing posters. They then presented their posters to families, students, and staff members. Great work third grade!

Kindergarten Writing
The kindergarteners got to choose a part of themselves that they thought was the ‘best’; but, they had to have a reason. We took a picture of that part of them and they did their best writing to explain their opinion.
