St. Stan Star

“Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I may always be holy!” St. Augustine
September has been a full month of learning activities! Seventh grade students did a nice presentation last Friday of their class saint, St. Padre Pio, and celebrated with a dress down day and special bulletin board display. From each presentation, the students learn a little more about what it means to be holy.
Thursday the DARE officers in training will come to our school to get some classroom experience. This is a great opportunity for children and officers to build relationships in the classroom and on the playground.
On Friday a representative from Three Rivers Electric will do a demonstration on safety and electricity for our students.
The students in grades 6, 7, and 8 have a wonderful service opportunity this Friday. They will walk to Blair Oaks and provide service during the Special Olympics event.
The school’s first Spirit Day is Friday, Sept. 28. Once a month students are allowed to show their school spirit by wearing a tee shirt that identifies their school or parish by name. Students are expected to follow the rest of the uniform guidelines.
Next week students, Grades 3-8, will be taking Iowa Basic Skills test. These tests are a good measure of student skills, teacher instruction, and strength of our current curriculum. Results from the test are normally received in November.
Safety Kids will be here on Thursday, Oct 4 to share their presentational skills and share a message of drug and alcohol safety. This is part of the Council for Drug Free Youth (CDFY). Two of our students, Cadyn Howell and Davis Barbour travel with students from other schools to do this presentation.
On October 10, classes (K-4) will be filmed saying the Pledge of Allegiance. This will air on KOMU at a future date on their morning news. At this time we do not know those dates.
