December
Hello December
I would say hello winter, which technically does not start until the 21st, but our weather here in Michigan has had us feeling and thinking about winter for some time now. Students should be used to dressing for the weather with appropriate coats, hats, and gloves. Please send snow boots with your child if they want to be able to go in the snow during recess time.
Our December calendar is full as you can see below with many activities and events.
One of the items of interest I like to talk to parents about this time of year is things you can do at home over the holiday break to keep the learning fire lit. I used to love gathering all our holiday books and read one each night of December. As our children got older, we used to pick a chapter book and I would do a “read aloud” each night from the book. It was a wonderful way to spend time together as a family and switch up the regular routine of TV, iPhones, computers and video games.
Our National Elementary Honor Society is up and running this year and has teamed up with our local Kiwanis Club for a canned food drive. We are asking students to bring canned goods to school from December 3rd-December 11th to be collected from the Kiwanis Club for families in need.
Just a friendly reminder that “smart” watches are treated just like cellular phones here at school and on our busses before and after school or during field trips. They are to be used only outside of school hours. Thank you for your support and cooperation in this important policy. Please refer to the Student Handbook at www.uticak12.org/handbook (page 15 numbers 14 and 15 specifically)
Thank you all for your continued support and patience in our parking lot. The safety of our students and school community is always first. Students should only be let off in between the cones if the busses are still here. Students walking between busses is extremely dangerous and should never be allowed.
