CHS GRAD’S ROBOTICS TEAM PLACES 1ST IN U.S., 3RD IN WORLD
Chandler High graduate Whitney Foster recently won third place in the world and first in the nation as a part of ASU's all-female robosub team at the Robonation International Competition in San Diego. The Si Se Puede Foundation, a valuable partner to CHS, was one of the founders of the WAVE Robotics Team. AVIATION ACCOLADES
Congratulations to CHS Junior Andre Richardson for being selected to attend the Southwest Airlines 2019 Continuing the Legacy in Aviation (academy/program) at the Southwest HQ Campus in Dallas, TX this October. In June, Andre was selected to attend a weeklong Aviation Career Education Academy and learned about the aviation field through tours and professional instructions. Andre received an award for outstanding graduate as well as the Top Flyer Award. Andre was recommended by his academy instructor to apply for the Southwest Airlines Continuing the Legacy in Aviation event that hosts students from all over the country. Andre’s application was selected and awarded the all-expense paid trip for him and a parent to attend. Way to go, Andre! Keep soaring!
IB STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Last Thursday, Holly Hoogstra, a senior in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, was awarded with the IB Student of the Year Award at the Quarterly Meeting of the Arizona International Baccalaureate Schools. Mark Hinton, Holly’s IB Film teacher, nominated her for this award, saying, “Holly is an outstanding student, and what she has accomplished is nothing short of remarkable. Besides having very high academic achievements, she is very hardworking at everything she does and is very committed to excellence.” Holly has a 4.76 GPA, is involved in numerous clubs and activities, and hopes to attend Harvard after graduation. Congratulations, Holly!
CHANDLER GIRLS WIN CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
The Lady Wolves stepped up on a humid Saturday morning and defended their title against 32 other teams at the Chandler Invitational. Ava Potts won the sophomore race while posting the 3rd best overall time of the day. Lauren Kazaroff, in her first race as a Wolf, took home the honors, winning the freshman contest. Brooke Eversden placed 2nd in the senior run followed by Daniela Montufar, who was 10th. Sarah Plant kept things close in the junior competition with a ninth place finish.
The boys faced some tough competition in their half of the invitational and finished 7th overall. Gunner and Gabe Garcia finished 7th and 14th in the senior race. Kaleb Ross was the fastest Wolf in the junior race. Jeremy Hadnot set a new personal best in his sophomore race, and Mario Fernandez was the top Chandler freshman.
Next up for the runners is the Ojo Rojo Invitational on Saturday, Sept 14th at Tumbleweed Park. The varsity girls race at 8:20 and the boys at 8:55. Come out and support your teams!

UNIFIED FUN
You don’t want to miss tomorrow’s (Tuesday, Sept. 10th) CHS Unified Flag Football game vs. Hamilton at 6:00pm on Austin Field. In addition to cheering for CHS’s unified athletes, you’ll catch Scruffy, Unified and CHS Cheer, concessions, and more. Admission is free. It’s a blue out, so wear your Chandler gear and show your CHS and Unified spirit. Go Wolves!

IB GAME NIGHT
Last Friday after school, IB students gathered in the JSU for an “IB Game Night”. Students could choose from a range of activities and games, such as Chess, Uno, and Just Dance. By playing games, people were able to de-stress after a hard school week, were provided with the opportunity to get to know each other better, and meet people that they did not know before. MORE IB/MYP NEWS
On Wednesday, September 11, 10th grade students enrolled in the Middle Years Program will meet in the CTE Lecture Hall during 3rd hour. During this time, MYP Sophomores will be introduced to ManageBac and will begin work on their MYP Personal Project. This meeting is only for sophomores, and students who are unable to attend will need to make up the activities completed in order to participate in MYP. See you there!
On Thursday, September 12, there will be a mandatory meeting for all 10th-12th grade IB students in the CCA Foyer during Lunch B. Grand Canyon University will be here to speak about its Honors College Program. Free pizza will be provided!
HOMECOMING DANCE
Students, are you ready to celebrate “Neverland, Where Time Stops”? Then you’ll want to attend CHS’s Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 28th from 8:00-11:00pm. Ticket presale prices are $20 until B lunch on September 27th; after that, tickets will be $25 at the door. Guest passes are available in the front office and bookstore now. If you are bringing a guest from another school, you must complete the guest pass process no later than Thursday, September 26th. This requires a lot of signatures, so you don’t want to wait. Take care of it now because late passes will not be accepted.

DUAL ENROLLMENT
CGCC has extended the enrollment deadline to Friday, September 13 and the payment deadline to Monday, September 23. They hope this will allow students time to complete the required documents and assessments needed to enroll in their dual enrollment coursework. Please do not wait until Friday, as you may need to go to the CGCC Campus to complete the process.

The Band Boosters will be hosting a dining out fundraising night at Floridino’s on Thursday, September 12th, from 4pm-9pm. Anyone who dines in or orders carry out during that time frame AND mentions they are there to support the CHS Band, will help us earn 20% of those sales back. Floridino’s is located at 590 N. Alma School Rd. Come join us!

CUSD BOND FACT SHEET
Help support CHS’s Positive Referral program by helping us win $400 to $3,000! All you have to do is shop, dine or watch a movie at Chandler Fashion Center from Aug. 1-Feb. 29, and Chandler High will earn money toward recognizing students who exhibit great character. Last year we were able to give away three chrome books to students who received positive referrals and had their names drawn at the end of each semester.
