A Principal's Perspective
Did you know that 2020 is a leap year? So, we get an extra day this year to accomplish our personal and professional goals for this year. It could also be an extra day to indulge and take care of you by resting, doing a fun activity that you have always wanted to do, celebrate a special occasion or an every day occasion with friends and/or family, or take that extra day for personal reflection. Although 365 + 1 seems like a whole lot of days, we know that this semester, this 2020 year, a new decade, will fly by. I hope that each of us will be very intentional in how we use the seconds, minutes, days, weeks to make 2020 a Success...Each Life...Each Day,...Each Hour!

Leap Year Just For Fun Facts
- Leap year occurs every four years.
- February 29th is added to a leap year.
- A single year according to the solar year is 365 days, five hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds to be exact.
- For convenience, we discount the five hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds each year. However, this doesn’t mean that time just disappears. To make up for it, we add a day every four years.
- Julius Caesar created the concept of Leap Day in 45 B.C.
- Because of the 11 minute time difference, Pope Gregory XIII realized he would have to modify the leap year to keep the calendar in order.
- Gregory created a system that eliminates three leap years every 400 years. Century years that are divisible by 400 have a leap year, if they aren’t, they don’t have one.
- When we enter the 22nd century in 2100, there will be no leap year.
- Because he made this change, the name Gregorian calendar, the modern date system in use, is named after Pope Gregory XIII.
- Did you know there is a leap second?
