MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
T.S. Cooley Community,
We are off to a great start to the new year and the third nine weeks! Our staff and students returned from the holiday break rejuvenated and ready to roll into an awesome spring semester. Time is flying as we are already making plans for the 2023 - 2024 school year. New student registration is just around the corner and enrollment information for our current families went home with report cards today. Strategic planning is very exciting and we value feedback we receive to keep Cooley performing at it's absolute best. Taking time to reflect with our students to gain the feedback is the highlight of our planning process. We've heard them loud and clear this year - they want their playground castle fixed so they can enjoy recess with their friends even more! We 100% agree with their request and can't wait for them to be able to play together on the castle again.
The castle that is in the center of our playground has the stairs roped off so that no students can access the structure due to safety concerns. Students have not been able to utilize the castle since Hurricane Laura. While this may not seem like a priority to some, we know how important it is to our valued stakeholders, our students. We have extensively researched all options for repairs and have a plan in place to replace the stairs and center platforms for the castle. The replacement of these main structures on the castle will cost $29,000.00. Replacing the castle with a nearly identical structure would be nearly $100,000.
How are we hoping to raise these funds? Our PTO sponsored fundraisers that are booked for the spring will bring us very close to the total amount needed, if we have the same amount of support we've historically had with these fundraisers. The profit from our annual Holiday Shop provided a great start to our fundraising efforts. Looking ahead, we have our cookie dough fundraiser, annual crawfish boil and fish fry events, and scheduled restaurant nights. These "food fundraisers" have been very profitable for us thanks to the generous support of our Cooley community. These are also great opportunities to enjoy fun times with friends!
Cookie dough packets are going home with all students today. Please read the note attached to the packet to see options for all levels of support. Anyone interested in a sponsorship can reach out directly to me at emily.alcock@cpsb.org. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our office staff or PTO volunteers with any questions.
The support of our Cooley community is truly second to none. We are blessed with amazing families that value all aspects of education as much as we do. Thanks in advance for helping us reach our goal of providing a safe place for our students to play.
