Winter is Here!
Cold weather has arrived. Please make sure your child is appropriately dressed for outside recess. We want the students to go outside every day if possible. Coats, hats, mittens, scarves are needed on cold days! If you need a coat, hat or gloves for your child please let me know and we will work to find one for them! Make sure everything is labeled in case it is lost!
Please remember school supervision begins at 7:30am each morning. Please do not drop off students prior to this time.

Getting to Know Mrs. Burle - Second Grade Teacher
Tell about your family-
My husband and I have three grown children. My daughter, Kate, is a speech and hearing pathologist in Columbia. My son, Greg, is a pharmacist in Jefferson City, and my other son, Doug, is a firefighter/paramedic in Florida. We also have a Boston terrier named Slater.
Tell about your education and experience?
I graduated with a B.S. in Advertising from the University of Florida a long time ago. In 1996, I received my education degree from Lincoln University. I also have a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from William Woods University.
I worked in advertising agencies and as an advertising copywriter for two major department stores in Florida. After moving to Colorado, I became a freelance writer for resort brochures. I also helped my husband run our health and racquet ball club in the Rocky Mountains.
After moving to Missouri, I worked as the Special Sections Editor of the Jefferson City News Tribune for 5 years.
I am completing my 21st year of teaching at Osage R-2 School District with 6 years in second grade and 15 in third grade.
What did you want to be when you were little?
I wanted to be a scientist when I was little. I went to school in Florida, and I was at the beach or in the family pool all the time. So I grew up literally in the water. I thought it would be fun to study marine animals. But I spent the summers at my grandparents’ farm in Georgia, so then I wanted to be a farmer.
What are you good at doing?
People say that I am creative. I have an artist’s eye. I know that I am good at writing. I have had articles that were picked up by the AP wires and published around the country.
What makes you happy?
Well, my family makes me very happy. I am so proud of them and I love spending time with them.
What really makes my heart sing is when I see my students read on their own, without being told to, and I know they are reading for enjoyment.
What is your favorite thing to do?
I love to sit on my porch with a good book and a glass of ice tea. I also like to travel and visit Florida.
What is a favorite Linn Elementary memory?
I remember taking our third graders on a field trip to the Governor’s Mansion my first or second year of teaching here. We had asked the governor’s wife, Mrs. Carnahan, to take a picture with us and she did. I also have wonderful memories of all the summer school field trips we used to go on, especially when we toured Busch Stadium.
Getting to Know Mrs. Williams - Special Services Coordinator
Tell about your family-
Randy and I have been married for 23 years. We have 3 daughters, Audrey (16), Lauren (13) and Natalie (4). We aren't from the area. I grew up on a farm near Manhattan, Kansas and Randy grew up in a military family, and they moved around a lot. Years ago we decided to live in mid-Missouri because it was half-way from each of our families. However, Randy's parent have recently moved to Linn so now we finally have relatives that live in Osage County!
Tell about your education and experience?
I graduated with a Exceptional Child BS from SEMO, and then got my Master's in Teaching from Columbia College. I taught Special Services in Boonville when I first got out of college. We moved to Jefferson City and I got a teaching position in Linn. I taught 5th and 6th grades in Linn for 14 years, and then four years ago I moved to 3rd grade. This is my first year as Special Services Coordinator.
What did you want to be when you were little?
Surprisingly, I never envisioned myself as a teacher. My dad is a veterinarian and I always wanted to be just like him. When I went to college one of my professors asked us to do a presentation in a speech/drama class. When I received my score, the teacher had written that he thought I would make a great teacher. I looked into the education field and was accepted into the program. I've never regretted it.
What are you good at doing?
I am great at organizing. Someday, when I retire maybe I'll start an organizing business.
What makes you happy?
Being a wife and a mom makes me happy. I love doing things with my husband, especially when it's just the two of us. But I also like hanging out with our children and watching them grow. I am very proud of the young ladies they are becoming.
What is your favorite thing to do?
Learning. I like to learn how to do lots of different things. There was a limb hanging down in the driveway. It scraped the top of my car everyday. I asked my husband to teach me how to run a chainsaw, so I could cut it down. There was a crocheted lap blanket in a store that I thought was beautiful but it cost a lot of money. I took a picture of it, and asked my grandma to teach me how to make it. Although it took me several tries, I finally learned how to crochet. Next I want to learn how to sharpen the blades on the lawnmower. It means I have to use a grinder, and these little sparks will fly everywhere. I'm sort of scared of it, but I still want to learn how to do it.
What is a favorite Linn Elementary memory?
That's a tough question for me. I would have to say that the 14 years I spent teaching with Ms. Parrish were some of the best years of my career. We were tough, wild, silly, and memorable... and we really had a lot of fun with our students.
