Reignier Catholic School Newsletter
29th November 2021 - Issue # 17
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Tēnā koe,
We are almost at the end of the year. This will be our last official newsletter for the year, with a smaller flyer going out in week nine with the last of the nuts and bolts in preparation for 2022.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the students, staff, whānau and community of Reignier Catholic School. You have welcomed me into your community and I am extremely grateful. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of watching the first group of our students receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. It was a privilege to be part of this alongside their whānau. Congratulations to them and to the rest of our students who will be receiving theirs over the next two Sundays.
These last couple of terms have not been what I had envisioned, but I know that there is always meaning in the challenges that we face and this makes us stronger, together. Covid has made life hard on so many fronts, but we must remember to be gentle on ourselves. The world is struggling, and we are not in this alone. God is always with us. At times we may find this hard to accept, especially when those challenges we face are overwhelming, but it is true, nevertheless.
Finally, I would like to thank all our Year 6 students and the families who are leaving us at the end of the year. Thank you for everything that you have contributed to the life of our kura. You will be missed but leave us knowing that you will always be part of our Reignier Catholic School whānau. May the next part of your educational journey continue to be filled with success, happiness, and faith.
God bless.
Teresa Shanks
FIRST HOLY COMMUNICANTS
Absent: Liam O'Neill and Caleb Westaway
STAFFING
Congratulations to Miss Kirsten Baddeley who has recently been appointed as a permanent staff member from 2022.
Last Friday, we farewelled Mrs Margo Harvey, who many of you know has been our sports coordinator for the last four years. It was with a lot of sadness we have had to say goodbye. We wish her all the best as she undertakes her new role as the sports coordinator at Sacred Heart College next year.
It is also with sadness that at the end of this year we will be farewelling Mrs Erin Smith, who has been with Reignier School for 20+ years. Mrs Smith is taking some time to spend with her family. We would like to acknowledge all the work, time and commitment she has given the school over her time with us. I know that she will be missed by everyone. We wish her all the best for her next chapter. Mrs Smith will be formally farewelled over the coming weeks.
Staffing for 2022: This will be confirmed in the week nine flyer as we are working through the final details.

NETSAFE WEBINAR
Last week, Anjie Webster from Generation Online worked alongside our Year 6s with a focus on safety, citizenship and wellbeing from an online perspective. Anjie also works for Netsafe New Zealand and is hosting a conversation alongside her colleague Andrew Cowie and Chief Censor, David Shanks from the Classification Office. The focus of the webinar is helping young people to develop strategies that encourage them to think critically and review the media they may consume, and the platforms and spaces they engage with. Registrations for the webinar can be made here. It will also be recorded and shared on the Netsafe YouTube channel.
