School-Based Therapy through Family Connections
ADM is partnering with Family Connections out of Council Bluffs to bring a therapist on-site to all 5 of our ADM schools. If you are interested in having your student referred for school-based therapy, please reach out to your student's ADM High School counselor. You can learn more about Family Connections through the link here.
FINALS WEEK: ARE YOU READY FOR IT?
"Study like there's no tomorrow, because if you keep putting off
your studies for tomorrow, you'll probably be too late!"
High School Connections Activity
In January, students will be identifying one adult VIP here at ADM. Research shows that students who have a strong, personal connection with school staff feel safer and achieve at higher levels of success. It is also very important that students feel connected to their peers. Our goal is to ensure that every single student has at least one adult and one peer here at ADM that they feel connected to. Parents, please let your building administrator or counselor(s) know if you have any questions or concerns regarding this activity.
The prompts that we will be using for this activity are:
I have at least one friend here at school.
I have at least one adult at school that I know cares about me.
Who is the adult who cares about you here at school?
SAEBRS : Returning to ADM
ADM High School will be administering SAEBRS (social, academic, emotional behavior risk screener) in January. This year, SAEBRS will be an opt-in ONLY survey. More information on SAEBRS will be provided to families in the near future.
DMACC Online Classes
What we need these students to know:
- Classes start January 8th and you must begin working on your class in the first few days!
- There will be a mandatory meeting for students who are NEW TO DMACC ONLINE or scored a C- or below in their previous DMACC online course. You will meet your counselors in the library during your study hall on the 8th or 9th. If you do not have a study hall, you are required to meet with us during power hour. We will send you an email with your assigned date and time after Winter break.
- You will receive a syllabus information sheet from the counseling office and this needs to be filled out and returned to us by January 10th. This tells us that you read and understand the requirements outlined within your syllabus.
- If you are NEW to DMACC online, you have been assigned a study hall and you must remain in that study hall through midterm. If you have a C or above at midterm, you will be eligible for open campus, unless you're a freshman, since we require freshman to remain on campus at all times. You will be eligible for open campus when your schedule reflects this change.
- You were given a sheet with important dates when you signed up for your classes. We REQUIRE grade checks for all DMACC online students. On the dates listed, simply take a screenshot of your grade and send it to your counselor. The first two grade check dates are in-person, meaning that on January 19th and January 26th, you must show your grade to counseling office personnel directly. If you fail to turn your grade in on that day, we will take away your open campus. Tip: Put these important dates in your google calendar so you don't forget them! If you lost your sheet of grade check dates, no worries! We will provide you with a new one when you retrieve your books!
Schedule Changes DUE January 18th
Your counselors CANNOT change your schedule just because!
Schedule changes will only occur if:
- There was a computer error
- A student failed a class that should then be made up
- There is a shortage of credits for graduation or post-secondary entrance
- The student doesn't have the prerequisites for a specific class
- Administrative or teacher adjustment in class size
- Changes in the academic program that impacts student schedules
All schedule changes must be made by January 19th.
A Message from Dr. Tice
Greetings ADM Families,
We will soon begin the second semester of the 2023-24 school year. Seniors are almost in the final semester of their high school career.
I’ve met with each senior to determine the next course of action following graduation from high school. Within the ADM Class of 2024, we have students set to begin their training (in the
Fall) as chemical engineers, structural engineers, medical professionals, military, electricians, teachers and more. It is very exciting to experience the senior enthusiasm, as well as the stress that comes from being a Senior.
Our second Work-based Learning (WBL) class will begin soon (employability skills). This course is designed to assist students in developing the skills necessary to obtain employment, and to learn and practice the skills and attitudes required for job success. Students will practice resume writing, job application completion, and interviewing techniques. Additionally, students will practice work-place problem solving strategies, dialogue on real-life case studies, and demonstrate skills required to work in a diverse environment. This class helps students understand what their next step might be towards building a rewarding and fulfilling career. Successful completion of WBL110 is worth 2 DMACC college credits.
Other very important things:
If your Senior needs help with selection of a college, skilled trades, apprenticeships or any other Senior ‘thing’, they can come see me. Let’s solidify plans for post-high school now. If your Senior already has plans, have them come and share the great news with me. An encouragement note awaits. Mini-diplomas will begin on March 1. If you would like to meet with me, just reach out and we’ll get something scheduled.
The date for the ADM Career Day is set: Friday, April 12, 2024. Our Career Day Planning Team is now in the process of putting the details together for another successful and informative day. Let me know if you would like to volunteer or help with our 2024 Career Day. We’d love to have you join us.
GO Tigers.
With kind regards,
Dr. Patricia Tice
