Math
I'm so impressed with how hard everyone is working through 5th grade math, and how far we've come with being successful with online learning. It's been so exciting (and encouraging) to see students be successful with what has been dealt to us. This week we are continuing to work with decimals, and will start to use operations with decimals. We are focusing on adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals. The only daily assignment due will be the exit tickets that correspond to the daily lesson. Students are more than welcome to complete the problem sets, homework pages, and Dreambox if they would like some extra math to do for the week. As always, please reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns!

Science
Students will start a new virtual notebook which they will access on Monday. We will start off the week with a quiz over the moon. Then we will move on to learning about the night sky. Students will explore why the stars in the night sky change and what causes them to change. We will look at constellations and determine what constellations we see during what time of year. Students will be challenged to explore the night sky on their own and report back to the class what they say. To make things easier students will be asked to submit their virtual notebook at the end of each week instead of daily with each assignment.

Social Studies
In Social Studies we are moving forward with events leading up to the Revolutionary War. The standards covered this week are:
Compare the benefits and costs of individual choices within the context of key historical events pre-American Revolution to pre-World War 1.
We will ddescribe how government decisions on taxation, spending, protections, and regulation affect the national economy during the time-period being studied.
We will use and construct maps and graphs to represent changes in the United States over time.
Explain probable causes and effects of events and developments in United States history from the revolutionary period to the rise of industry and urbanization.

Online Learning
This week students will begin small group instruction in the afternoon for math. This will allow Ms. Goodman to facilitate instruction based on student need. The small group schedule is located in Canvas in your student's math section. We wanted to transition the students slowly to a schedule change. Next week we will have small group instruction in all content areas. Schedules will be posted in Canvas. If students are not in small group instruction they should be working on their asynchronous learning assignments and they can pop into Mrs. Conway's, Mrs. King's or Mrs. Wyatt's Zoom for support.
