Book Fair- March 20 & 21
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!)
Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become bolder, prouder, and stronger readers – AND, as always, every book they buy earns rewards for our school.
The book fair will take place in the Pierce Media Center from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm (with a break from 4:00 pm– 5:00 pm) on March 20 and 21 during Parent/Teacher Conferences.
Volunteers are needed to help during the book fair with purchases & assisting families in locating books. We also need help setting up the book fair on March 13, and taking it down on March 22. If you are able to help, please sign up below.
Conference Dinners & Stock the Lounge😋🍽️
One of the ways our Panther community supports our staff and teachers is by providing dinner during Parent/Teacher Conferences March 20th & 21st. PTA sponsors the purchase of the main meal from a local restaurant, but we need your help rounding out the meal. Please consider donating for conference dinners and re-stocking the staff lounge!
Panther Skate Night at Troy Skate World – Wednesday, April 10
Get your skates ready! Join the PTA for a fun FAMILY SKATE NIGHT at Troy Skate World Wednesday, April 10 from 6:15PM – 8:15PM. Friends of Difference Learners
Please see below for information on upcoming community events. These events are free of charge & open to all BPS families!
Monday, March 18 at 7PM via Zoom: Are you a fifth grade parent with a different learner and wondering how to navigate the transition to middle school next year? Then this virtual meeting is for you! This will be an opportunity to listen to other parents' experiences and to ask general questions.
Thursday, April 4th at 7 pm in the Covington Media Center: Jenny Stewart from Signing Courses ASL will be presenting. Signing Courses ASL is aimed at revolutionizing communication and education within Birmingham Public Schools. The focal point of this initiative is the seamless integration of simple sign language into both early education and special education settings. This innovative approach envisions classrooms and programs equipped with ASL materials and resources where communication can extend beyond conventional boundaries.
Special Services Spotlight
Has a BPS staff member made a difference in your life or the life of your student? Please nominate them for a Special Services Spotlight!
We know that our Birmingham Public School staff, from teachers to paraprofessionals and everyone in between, works for our students and their well-being. We want to take the time to recognize these staff members who go above and beyond and have made a difference in the special services community at BPS. Students, families, and staff may nominate one or more staff members to receive a feature in our upcoming newsletter and an opportunity to be recognized at an upcoming FODL community meeting.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
Accelerated Reader (AR) is a PTA sponsored program to drive reading and reading comprehension for grades 2-5. For anyone who has achieved the ‘purple star’, please send in a picture no bigger than 4 x 6 to the office so we can hang it up on AR Celebration Board outside the Pierce Library!
Our next Harvest will take place at noon, Wednesday, April 3!
Visit MTK to order today if your child has qualified for the t-shirt. As always, please reach out if you have any questions! For more information and contact info for questions, please visit https://piercepta.membershiptoolkit.com/academics
