St. Mary's School
Monday, October 26, 2020
In addition to a candy corn number guessing game and Halloween-themed activities in individual classrooms, our Student Council is pleased to announce the following two events this week:
Wednesday, October 28 - Crazy Day
Students may wear crazy socks, crazy hats, and/or crazy face masks (the protective type of mask, not the decorative type) to school.
Friday, October 30 - TAG Day
All students may come to school out of uniform this Friday. There is no cost for this TAG Day. This year, students on the first floor (PreKA, PreKB, K, 1) may wear their Halloween costume to school if they choose. If your child is wearing a costume, please be sure your child will be able to take it off and put it on independently when using the bathroom. Students in grades 2-8 are not permitted to wear costumes.
We'd also like to remind everyone of the importance of taking the necessary health and safety precautions when celebrating Halloween to limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health recently released a comprehensive publication with tips for a safe and healthy Halloween. The tip sheet can be accessed by clicking here.

Update to Mask Policy
Beginning on Monday, November 2 gaiters and masks with any type of vent/valve will not be permitted. According to the CDC website, evaluation regarding gaiters is ongoing but effectiveness is unknown at this time. Also as stated on the CDC website, masks that have exhalation valves or vents (which allow virus particles to escape) should not be worn.
The CDC guidance states that masks should meet the following criteria:
1) have two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric
2) completely cover your nose or mouth
3) fit snugly against the sides of your face and not have gaps
If you have any questions regarding this update or masks in general, please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Pedicini.
