How is it already May?! How this year has flown!
As we approach the end of the year, students are required to take state and district assessments. As you may be aware, state testing is an essential component of our educational system, providing valuable insights into our students' academic progress and helping us identify areas where we can further support their learning and growth.
In preparation for the state tests, our teachers have been diligently working with students to ensure they are familiar with the format and content of the exams. We want to reassure you that while these assessments are important, they are just one measure of your child's progress, and we value their growth and development in all areas.
We understand that standardized testing can sometimes be a source of stress for students, and we want to assure you that we are taking steps to create a supportive and positive testing environment. Our staff will be on hand to provide encouragement and support to students throughout the testing process.
We also want to emphasize the importance of your support as parents and guardians during this time. Encouraging your child to get plenty of rest, eat a nutritious breakfast, and approach the tests with a positive attitude can make a significant difference in their performance.
Additionally, please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming state testing. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education. Together, we can help them succeed and reach their full potential.

Building Character at SME
Each month at Six Mile Elementary, we focus on different character traits and talk about ways to show those traits to others. We discuss the trait in morning meeting in our classrooms. We spotlight the trait on the school news show. Mrs. Orr, our guidance counselor, goes into classrooms and does special lessons with the trait. At the end of each month, we have a Best of the Nest party to honor those students who "shine" in that area.
In May, our word is COMMITMENT.
COMMITMENT is making a plan and putting it into practice.
It's Not Too Late to Enroll Your Child at SME for next year!
Absence Notes
If your student is absent, you have three days to send a note stating the reason for their absence before it is counted unexcused. You can send a handwritten note or you can email Stephanie Merck at stephaniemerck@pickens.k12.sc.us. You can also email your child's teacher.
When students have accumulated 3 absences in a row without a note, Mrs. Plyler will have to schedule a meeting for an Attendance Conference. Please make sure to get your note in so that this does not happen.
