Superintendent's Newsletter
December 2018
Dear MUSD Community,
We did it! Thanks to your continued support of our MUSD students and staff, we passed Measure Q. Over 70% of our community voted to provide sustainable local funding to protect programs and services for our students. The foundation of any great school district always begins with strong community support. I am so grateful the MUSD community continues to support our students, our staff, and a strong local public school system.
Measure Q continues the existing annual parcel tax of $50 per parcel with a modest increase of $25. The new $75 dollar annual total will help provide a small but needed increase in revenue which can allow MUSD to protect key programs benefiting a student's well-rounded education program. Of course, for any locally approved tax measure in MUSD, Measure Q will have an independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee ensuring the expenditures of Measure Q remain in alignment with the promises we made to voters.
Last week we launched the first formal events of our partnership with the Sandy Hook Promise. MJHS took the lead by launching the “Start With Hello” program. 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students participated in an assembly about what they, as individual students, can do to help build a better school community and reduce social isolation. These efforts can create a very positive impact across a school campus, and the steps are very simple. First, be aware of your surroundings and acknowledge when you see someone alone. Second, reach out and help. Third, start with hello. If we can help our students engage in this behavior we can each play a role in building a better community.
As we move through this busy holiday season, I hope you too will consider taking these three simple steps to help build a better community. You never know what an impact it might have when someone feels recognized and valued.
It's that special time of year again! Well, yes, the holidays are coming quickly too but more importantly, the annual Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten registration days are coming. Make sure you start 2019 by getting a registration packet and checking the information in this newsletter so you know what days to register your student for TK/K based on your home school of attendance within MUSD. Packets will be ready for pick up on January 7, 2019 and can be picked up at the District Office (921 Susana Street).
The hustle of the holiday season is certainly here and before we turn the calendar to 2019, I’d like to take a moment and offer each of you, and your families, the very happiest of holidays. From my family to yours, may your holidays be safe and filled with love and laughter.
Sincerely,
CJ Cammack
