FDES 5th Grade Parent News
End of Year Information
*New: Please have students arrive by 5:45 to have time to line up with their class. Please make sure students wear flat shoes, as they will be walking up/down bleachers during the ceremony. This is a very special occasion for our 5th graders. We would love to see everyone dressed in their best attire.
Students Must Arrive by 5:45pm to Line Up for the Processional!
Will tickets be mandatory? Yes, since this event will be held inside, we will require tickets. Based on the capacity of the gym, each 5th grade student will be assigned two tickets. Tickets may be used for no more than 2 people. If you have twins in 5th grade, then each of those students are assigned 2 tickets. It is up to the family if you want those 2 tickets to be for siblings, parents, etc. but the limit is 2 tickets. There are no exceptions. Tickets will be collected at the door. Thanks in advance for understanding.
In-Person students will have their tickets placed in their Friday Folder on May 14th.
Digital student parents may come sign for and pick up their tickets Monday, May 17-May 19th from 8:30am-3:30pm
Will there be transportation provided to the event? No, we are not allowed to have buses for field trips during the school day. Therefore, we did have to make this a night event. Parents will have to drive their student to the event and stay.
Are digital students invited? Absolutely! We would love to see all of our students at the awards ceremony. They will have special seating at the ceremony.
Will the event be live-streamed? No, unfortunately, at the school will not be able to live stream the event. We will let you know if this changes! For now, our plan is to record the ceremony and place the link on our eClass landing page!
Will masks be required? Yes, since we are at a school event, please wear your masks.
Will there be social distancing? Yes, one major factor for choosing this venue is there is ample space for social distancing based on each student getting tickets for a maximum of two guests.
Is attendance required? No, we understand you may have a prior commitment or not able to attend.
We will send more details as they become available, but if you think of a question please email your child's teacher or Ms. Hicks at jennifer.d.hicks@gcpsk12.org
Please come back to this page often, as we will make updates weekly!
Kindest Regards,
Barbara Tucker, Ed.D.

Fifth Grade Letters are an opportunity for parents and family members to celebrate the accomplishments and character of your 5th grade student.
The letters can be a reflection of what the student has done during their elementary years, including funny stories, sweet memories of the past, or advice to them as they move towards middle school. This is a great opportunity to honor your child.
We are encouraging parents and family members to write notes or letters. These letters will be collected throughout the next few weeks and delivered to each 5th grade student on a special day. The letters may be post- cards/cards, small notes, or even typed letters. Each letter should be clearly marked with the student’s legal full name (NO NICKNAMES), Class Name (teacher) and labeled “5th GRADE LETTER.” If we cannot identify the student, the letter may not be delivered. No letter can be larger than an 8½”x11”sheet of paper. Each student will have one 10”x13” envelope to hold their items.
Starting Monday, May 3rd Fifth Grade Letters may be delivered to the school. The collection site is the front of the school. There will be labeled boxes (by classroom teacher's last name) outside the front entrance of the school for contactless drop-off. It would be ideal if a parent or other family member can collect individual letters from friends and families and then drop them off bundled together.
This celebration if open to all students (In-Person and Digital). Digital learners will receive their letters when the arrive to pick up their ceremony tickets and t-shirts on May 17th-19th.
If you decide to mail your Fifth Grade Letters, please address it to Ms. Jessica Bryant and mark the envelope with "5th GRADE LETTERS" as well as the student's complete name (no nicknames). Letters should be at the school NO LATER THAN Wednesday, May 12, 2021 to allow time for sorting. We want to make sure that each of our 5th graders gets recognized as a part of this fun and meaningful celebration.
