Jensen Jaguar Families!
I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend. It was nice to see some of you at the Fall Festival! A thank you to all our students who did "chicken" and "rooster" art for the Festival! This week we will have our school picture day on Tuesday and we will hold our annual Vision Screening over the next two Wednesdays for our kindergarteners, 2nd graders and 5th graders. We will also do a vision screening for any other student that our staff has concerns about. Don't forget to mark your calendar for Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences that will begin in two weeks. Please take note of our Fall Conference schedule with our early release days below. There will be a Friday lunch service available Tues.-Th. for students who want to buy lunch after they get out of school. Otherwise, students are released from school at the times listed below. There is no lunch recess:
- Tues., 9/24, Wed., 9/25, & Th., 9/26 Kinder Release @ Noon and 1st-5th gr. Release @ 12:30 p.m.
- Fri., 9/27 No School-Conferences all-day
Thank you to the families that were able to join me last Friday for our monthly Principal's Coffee & Tea. I appreciate you taking the time to share your ideas, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversation. I encourage new Jensen families to attend as it is a fantastic opportunity to network with other Jensen families and learn more about our school culture and programs.

School Picture Day is Tues., Sept. 10th
School Picture Day is this Tuesday, September 10th and we are using a new to Jensen vendor, Dorian Studios. Our new vendor provides complimentary classroom composite pictures for all students so you do not need to order one. Classroom composite pictures will be provided after make-up pictures are completed later this fall.
School picture ordering forms have been sent home with your child. There are extra paper copies in the Jensen office. You can also order online. Make-Up pictures will be held on Tues., Oct. 22nd.
Parking & Loading Zone Safety
A reminder that unfortunately, there is no family parking on school grounds. Please be considerate when coming and going from school to ensure the safety of everyone. The parking lot is reserved for school staff. There are two handicap parking spots located in the staff lot which are available for public use. Please review this information with your children and anyone who may be transporting your children to and from school.
White Zone: Any area painted white in front of the school or in the drop off loop is for loading and unloading during school hours only! NO parking during drop-off and pick-up times.
Green Zone: Any area painted green in front of the school or in the drop off loop has a maximum of 10-15 parking limit during school hours! Be considerate and share the space!
Drop Off-Zone: When driving in the drop-off zone, be patient and drive at a nice slow 5 mph!! Wait in line and follow the instructions of all staff members. Do not pass the cars on the left side and follow the flow of traffic. Your impatience equals a greater chance for an accident.
Students Exit Curbside: Students should be ready to exit the vehicle on their own when you reach the curb. When baby seats are placed on the right back seat, it makes it very difficult for your children to make a quick exit from the car without a lot of maneuvering over the car seat. When backpacks and lunch boxes are in the trunk or drivers need to exit the car to let a student out it stops the drop-off zone traffic and backs things up. Please plan ahead and be prepared!
Thank you for your cooperation!

September is Attendance Month!
CA Education Code requires that students attend school 180 days unless they are ill or are on short term independent study due to extenuating circumstances.
Absences due to vacation are considered unexcused absences and cause your child to miss valuable instructional time. Please also note that extended unexcused absences of three days or more are referred to the School Attendance Review Team (SART). Although we understand the importance of family trips and vacations, we ask families to please plan trips during school holidays and vacations so that your child will not miss valuable instructional time.
Tardies also impact your student. Walking in late to class day after day can affect your child's self-esteem as well as a loss to instructional time. If you are having trouble getting your child out the door in the morning, please contact Ms. MacLean. Together we work on a plan to support your family. If you personally are having a hard time getting out the door in the morning, please take the necessary steps to adjust your schedule, make a family plan and communicate any needs/issues with the school. We can only achieve success when we work together and each do our part!
Independent Study
Please click the link to review the updated CVUSD board policy on independent study.
- Independent studies must be 5 days and no more than 10 days.
- No Independent Studies are granted during the first 10 days of the school year.
- No Independent Studies are granted for the last 15 days of the school year.
- A minimum of 10 days prior notice is required to request an Independent Study. An Independent Study form must be completed no less than 10 days prior to the requested Independent Study.
- Students granted Independent Study will be expected to complete daily written assignments in all subject areas which are due the first school day following the end of the contract.
A Note From the Office: Student Clothing Donations Needed for Health Office
Thank you for the donations that have been coming in! The health office is still looking for usable clothing for girls and boys when there's been an accident. The health office will gladly accept donations of clothes in all children's sizes. We'll even take clean, gently used underwear and socks for girls and boys.
The best types of pants are sweats and leggings since they are stretchy!
This is great way to make room for new school clothes!
Thank You!
Mrs. Disher
Jensen Ranch PTA Updates
Dear Jensen Ranch Families,
The Jensen Ranch PTA is still looking for someone to chair our Community Outreach Program (our Thanksgiving Food Drive and Holiday Adopt-A-Family). Through our efforts thus far, we still do not have anyone to fill this position. Community Outreach is a Castro Valley program that helps out local Castro Valley families in need. This position serves as a liaison between the school and the community organization to collect food and donated items.
Your support is vital for the success of our school, so we are encouraging parents to voluntary contributions to the PTA, so we can continue to make improvements. Donations are not required, however, your one-time voluntary tax-deductible contribution of $150.00 per child can help achieve our goal. If you are unable to donate the suggested amount, any amount you can donate is welcomed and appreciated. Additionally, if your employer offers a matching grant program, we encourage you to submit the necessary paperwork with them.
Become a voting member of the Jensen PTA! The cost is $20 per person and your membership affords you the right to vote on critical programs and events run by the PTA at our association meetings. Stop by the school office to pick up all necessary forms or join/donate online at https://jointotem.com/ca/castro-valley/jensen-ranch-pta/join/register
Thank you so much for your continuing support!

Potential Parcel Tax Measure

High-Quality Education
Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) provides an excellent education that prepares students to graduate ready for competitive colleges and 21st-century careers. This is possible thanks to strong academic programs, excellent teachers, high-performing students and a supportive community.
Planning for the Future
As we look to the future, we know we cannot rely on the state to provide the level of funding our schools need. Our District is among the lowest funded in Alameda County and has already made $1.8 million in ongoing cuts in the past two years. Additionally, the Bay Area is one of the most expensive places to live in the country, and many of our teachers live right here in Castro Valley. By retaining and attracting the highest quality teachers, we can improve student achievement and continue providing an excellent education to students.
Potential Local Funding Measure
To provide dedicated funding for our schools to support programs and teachers, the Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education is considering placing a local parcel tax measure on an upcoming ballot. Although no final decisions have been made, a measure may cost $96 per parcel per year and generate $1.5 million annually for six years.
Funds from a measure could:
- Retain and attract highly qualified teachers
- Preserve strong academic programs in reading, writing, science, technology, engineering, arts and math
- Prepare students for college and careers
- Support the health and well-being of all students
- Keep schools clean and well-maintained
Fiscal Accountability Provisions of Potential Local Measure
- All revenue from the measure would be spent right here in our District to support local schools and could not be taken away by the State
- A citizens’ oversight committee and annual audits would ensure that all funds are spent as promised
- No funds could go to administrator salaries
- Seniors would be eligible for an exemption from the cost
