Preventing the Spread of Respiratory Illness
Massachusetts Department of Public Health has adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance about what to do if you test positive for COVID-19. Isolation mandates have been removed. This new guidance applies to any viral illness, not just COVID-19. Symptoms of a viral illness include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
If your student has new symptoms of a respiratory virus, including COVID-19, monitor symptoms and take action:
Cover coughs and sneezes.
Wash hands often with soap and warm water especially before or after eating and after coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.
Your student can go back to normal activities/work when:
They have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
Their symptoms are improving.
You can find helpful tips and examples from the MA DPH here: Respiratory Virus Guidance
