John L. Stevens
He was the U.S minister to the kingdom of Hawaii in 1893. Accused of conspiring to overthrow Queen Liliuokalani. He was a journalist, Author, Minister, Newspaper publisher and diplomat. He was a Maine State Senator. Founder of the Republican Party in Maine. John L. Stevens was born at 1820 at the Town of Mount Vernon, Maine. Spent a decade as an activist Universal Minister. 1860 became a Republican National Convention. Joined the United States Department of State and was appointed successively, Minister of Paraguay, Uruguay, Sweden, Norway and finally Hawaii. John L. Stevens believed that the Hawaiian people were childish and semi barbaric. He also believed that the Hawaiian people were not fit to govern them selves and that they needed the white peoples help in governing them selves. He supported the Coup. He gave the order to the Marines to March onto down town Honolulu and declares that Hawaii is a U.S protectorate
