Loving My Jewish Neighbor
At the forefront of public awareness in these past weeks has been the news of rising anti-semitism, threats against Jewish schools, institutions and synagogues - and even the desecration of Jewish cemeteries. As we consider and anticipate engaging “the Gospel in a Pluralistic Society” on March 24th, we need to hear the words of the apostle Paul that the gospel was FIRST to the Jew, then to the Gentile (Romans 1:16). All people need a Savior, and Yeshua came as Messiah for his people, Israel. Our neighbors who are Jews – culturally or religiously – have a special position in the eyes of the one true and living God who chose Abraham’s descendants through Isaac and Jacob to be his people through whom his plan to redeem the world would be accomplished. Whether your Jewish neighbor has considered Yeshua through Isaiah 53 and the gospels, or has not yet processed their history and faith, as a follower of the Messiah, you are called to stand with them and show them respect, love and honor. Let those who are Jews in your life know you are called to love all people, and that the gospel is for the Jew first.
