CONNECTING YOUTH MENTORING AT CCS
January is National Mentoring Month and an opportunity to recognize the vibrant mentors in our middle school mentoring program. Mentor pairs at CCS meet for one hour each week in school during the school year, and usually continue their relationship for more than one year.
Each day the mentor loft is used by pairs for talking, creating art, building with wood, doing science projects, sharing a craft project, and learning more about life together. They cook in the kitchen, play ping pong, go outdoors, and use the gym. Mentoring is an opportunity for students to develop a friendship with a member of our Charlotte community.
This year Nancy and Caitlyn have built houses together.. This picture shows them beside their house, which is filled with detailed Sculpy (clay) furnishings. Each room is decorated with details such as lights that turn on, a (lit) fireplace, braided rugs, a cat on the bedspread, and dogs in the yard with their owner. We hope that Nancy and Caitlyn’s artwork will be displayed soon, with the assistance of our art teacher, Mr. Cotton.
I encourage you to thank the mentors at CCS when you see them, and consider thanking someone in your life who has mentored you!

PTO VARIETY SHOW
Do you tap dance or sing? Have you written a poem you'd like to share? Can you get yourself out of your snowsuit using only your teeth and a banana peel? Whatever your talents are, we don't want you to hide your light under a bushel. Share them with your schoolmates and the community by participating in the annual CCS PTO Variety Show, where we welcome students to perform a skit, play the violin, burp the alphabet, whatever! Group performances are welcome. Two rules: have fun, and no lip-synch routines.
Get working on those acts now; signup information will be out next week. For further information please contact Chea Evans at cheaevans@gmail.com or Katie Taylor at katiertaylor@gmail.com.
Rehearsals will be held in the MPR Jan 29, Jan 31, and Feb 2, from 3-4:30, and Feb 6 from 2-3:30 and Feb 8. from 3-4:30. Students must attend a minimum of two rehearsals.
Kindergarten parents: K students usually perform a song together at the beginning--even the shy ones usually come around. We have a parent volunteer who will be coordinating this portion of the show who will be in touch separately.
The show is Friday, February 9. Doors open at 6:00. Can't wait to see you there!
