Artist in Residence
A.J. Whittenberg was delighted to be featured on The Morning News at 7 on Fox Carolina, showcasing our 4-day poetry workshop with Mr. Moody Black, supported by the Metropolitan Arts Council Grant. Hosted by Ashley and filmed by Cody, the segment captured the essence of the Artist in Residence Week at A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School, highlighting the students' enthusiasm and creativity as they explored the world of poetry under Mr. Moody Black's guidance. It was an amazing experience! The clip can be viewed below.
April's Book of the Month
This month we will explore the house of Academia in the book: Abdul’s Story written by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow. The house of Academia is focused on promoting a community that is focused on learning. In this story, the main character Abdul believes that stories are not meant to be written down, …until a special visitor encourages him and teaches him to embrace his mistakes.
Book summary: Abdul loves to tell stories. But writing them down is hard. His letters refuse to stay straight and face the right way. And despite all his attempts, his papers often wind up with more eraser smudges than actual words. Abdul decides his stories just aren’t meant to be written down…until a special visitor comes to class and shows Abdul that even the best writers—and superheroes—make mistakes.
