Updates and Clarity on Visitor's Policies
Clarity and Updates to Visitor's Policies
Happy Easter Monday, to those in our community who observe. I hope you had time with your family this weekend. I am reaching out today with some updates and reminders about our visitor's policies.
It is DCPS policy that all visitor's to the building must have an appointment. This is imperative. This helps preserve instructional time and helps us know who is in the building. Parents and caregivers are not allowed to stop in to check on a student or to see if volunteers are needed. If you are coming to volunteer, you must have a previous arrangement with the teacher or program (FoodPrints, Kennedy Center, etc.). All volunteers must have DCPS volunteer clearance. If you need assistance with clearance, please let us know so we can assist.
While I know we would like more access to classrooms and teachers, we must follow procedures that allow us to keep all students and teachers safe and secure.
Science Fair Reminders
Dear Ludlow-Taylor Families Welcome to Ludlow-Taylor’s 2024 Science Fair!
All students in grades 3rd-5th are participating in our science fair. They will be discussing the project at school and then completing the experiment and the display board at home. The science fair is the evening of Thursday, May 30th and Friday, May 31st.
This is a great opportunity for parents to participate in students’ development as scientific thinkers! Experiment Guidelines:
- All science fair projects will need to include the following method in their experiment and project. The Science Fair Method:
- 1. Choose a topic. (Use the guidelines)
- 2. Choose a question that you want to answer. (See examples in the guidelines)
- 3. Write a hypothesis, or educated guess, to answer that question, and some background research.
- 4. Do an experiment where pictures, data, or outcomes are observed.
- 5. Write your conclusion. What happened? What does this tell you about your topic? Do you have any ideas for further research?
Communication Expectations
Parents have asked for expectations around communications from the school during incidents. It is always our goal to get information out as soon as possible so caregivers are armed with as much information as possible. However, there are times when we will get preliminary information out to alert the community of an incident at school. There may be a delay in the time it takes us to gather facts and get information out to the community. We will communicate about any security concerns within the school and school grounds. We will share as much detail as possible, and we will share all pertinent details about incidents as soon as we have them. If we need to send preliminary information, we will do so with the caveat that more information will be forthcoming, and we will get details out within 24 hours.
