Week 4: What if you didn't give grades this week?

Week of January 30: Stop giving grades. Just for a week. Stop giving grades. To everything. Instead, give them advice for how to improve their work and demand that it not be turned in until it is 100% accurate. The goal here is learning, right? Or is the goal getting a grade? I hope you said the former.

SIX WEEK CHALLENGE
Oh no she didn't. Oh...yes she did. It's time to bring back the weekly challenges. These are, of course, optional. However, I challenge all of us to turn up the volume on our instructional practices as we head back into the New Year and return to our normal.

Week of February 6: Adjust your feedback. If I asked you to write part of the CSIP for me and then I handed it back to you with a C+, do you know what to do next? Do you know what you did right? Do you know what was inaccurate? What if I put x's by the parts I didn't like. Does that help? What if I wrote notes in the margin that said, " I love what you have here, but it really needs more concrete examples of how this looks in the classroom." What kind of feedback do you give kids to move their learning FORWARD?
It's a big challenge. Are you willing to take the leap?
