Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
March 13, 2020
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
There is no higher priority for our entire Fulton Public School community than the safety of our students, staff, and families. The Coronavirus is very concerning and we are working diligently to protect students and staff.
Information about the Coronavirus seems to change rapidly. We are closely monitoring reports and our staff continue to be in contact with the State Department of Health.
The following is a detailed outline of what we are currently doing.
District wide focus on increased cleaning and disinfecting of school buildings and buses in accordance with CDC guidelines as they are updated.
Our local Health Department has provided a presentation to all preschool through 2nd grade on hand washing technique.
FPS provides access to hand sanitizer dispensers at each school.
In an effort to prevent the spread of illness FPS has set up a scheduled hand washing plan for elementary students and is strongly encouraging good hand hygiene districtwide.
To help prevent transmission of airborne viruses, district nurses are continually providing instruction on hand washing and germ control to all district students and faculty.
The FPS Health Services Department provides a daily report to the local health department on illness related absenteeism in our district. Data taken from these reports is used to track both local and national disease trends.
Individual building nurses will continue to assess students and staff for potential symptoms of illness.
As a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are sick. Please call your school attendance line as soon as possible to report them absent. It is important to report specific symptoms for example, if your child has a fever, cough, or shortness of breath please report those symptoms and share any diagnosis you have received from a doctor.
Fulton Public Schools, in close collaboration with local and state health departments, will determine if there is a need for school closure.
School closures would be communicated the same as inclement weather communications.
In line with many universities, college students who are tutoring and student teaching will not be on FPS campuses.
As we approach spring break, we know many of you will be traveling and we encourage you to use healthy precautions and follow CDC travel guidelines which are being updated frequently.
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services activated a statewide public hotline for citizens or providers needing guidance regarding coronavirus. The hotline can be reached at 877-435-8411. The hotline is being operated by medical professionals and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
For basic questions involving COVID-19, please refer to the guidance and recommendations that are being disseminated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), located here:https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html
Thank you for sending great kids to work with.
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
