Your students will enjoy an animal-themed story and then virtually meet the superstar animal of the book. Read along, make animal observations, recall facts, and investigate biofacts. Students will observe sea turtle biofacts and get an up-close look at our resident sea turtles through real-time cameras.
Battle of Iwo Jima 75th Anniversary

Join the National Museum of the Pacific War for an interactive presentation commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. Hear from a WWII veteran as he shares his experiences of landing in the first wave with the 5th Marine Division at the base of Mt. Suribachi on February 19, 1945. The program will also include museum staff providing additional information on the 36-day struggle, photographs, video footage, and artifacts connected to the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Join us for an amazing program that's all about the animals. This program features two different live animals and a question-and-answer session with an animal outreach specialist. Discover amazing animal facts as we compare and contrast both animals and learn more about their unique adaptations.

Questions will be drawn at random, however, due to time not all questions will be answered in the program. Please include your school's name, grade level, and teacher's name with your class question.

General John B. Sylvester is retired from the United States Army. He is a graduate of Texas A&M and the United States Army War College. He served in the first Gulf War and is remembered for his command of the famous Tiger Brigade of the 2nd Armored Division. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, The Defense Superior Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and one Silver Star.

Young Spurs Essay Contest by Cornelius Foote Jr.

Professor Cornelius Foote teaches a wide variety of classes at the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. Outside of his teaching duties, Foote is co-director of the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference, a 14-year-old event featuring prominent journailsts, authors, and editors discussing all aspects of journalism and media. Last year, nine students from several Bryan/College Station high schools were recognized at the conference for winning awards in the Young Spurs Essay Contest. Foote has a B.A. in Government from Wesleyan University, an M.S.J. from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University.
