School Community Newsletter 8/20/2019
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The staff of District 25 have returned to work to finish the final preparations for the 2019-2020 school year. Thursday, August 22, 2019, is our first day of school and we will be ready to greet your children and welcome them with open arms! We are thrilled to get the school year started!
Our goal is to provide your child and your family with the best middle school experience possible. To ensure that we can accomplish this, PLEASE READ this community newsletter as it contains pertinent information for you and your child. We recognize that for many families there is an overabundance of communication coming from multiple schools. As a result, you can expect to receive these newsletters twice per month, typically on Fridays during the first and third weeks. Since we will not be sending middle school communication home each week, please be sure to scroll this entire newsletter as it may be lengthy.
GRATITUDE: This past week we had over 50+ student and parent volunteers help out with our Locker Assignment and 7th & 8th grade Chromebook Pick-Up Events. These sessions turned out to be a huge success. It was super fun to see so many students and families in the building. We hope you enjoyed this experience. We could not have done this without the amazing volunteers! Please do not worry if your child was unable to attend, lockers and 7th & 8th grade Chromebooks will be distributed in homeroom on Thursday, August 22nd. The 6th grade Chromebooks will be shared in the weeks to come.
FRIENDLY REMINDER: If you have not already done so, please take a couple of minutes to complete the Chromebook Usage Form. ALL 6th, 7th, & 8th GRADE STUDENTS NEED THIS FORM COMPLETED! We currently have 66% of our student population that have completed this form. We are striving for 100%.
Best wishes for the best school year ever!
Greg, Nick, & Lori

TMS TRAFFIC PATTERNS and EXPECTATIONS FOR ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL
At the start of each school year, it is important to review the TMS traffic patterns and expectations for the start and end of each school day.
Traffic Pattern: Here is a link to the TMS MAP highlighting our traffic patterns for morning drop off.
Arrival Before School
6th Grade Entrance: All 6th graders will enter TMS using the 6th grade entrance located on the Thomas Street side of the building. 6th graders can be dropped off in the Arlington Heights side parking lot.
7th & 8th Grade Entrance: All 7th and 8th graders will enter TMS using the main entrance. The 8th graders will proceed up the main stairwell in the foyer and the 7th graders will either turn left at the Gamma hallway or proceed to the north stairwell to enter the second floor.
Dismissal After School
How do students exit the building? At 2:45, the end of the school day, students are expected to make their way to their after school activities by 3:00 pm or they can choose to exit the building for the day. Students walking or biking home may select to utilize any exit at the end of the school day.
Parent Pick-Up Line: ALL 6th, 7th & 8th graders can get picked up on the carpool line which is on Belmont Avenue. Please be sure to form a single line along Belmont Street and remain in your car until your student arrives.
Bussing: Students taking the bus should exit out the LMC doors, as the busses will line up in the Arlington Heights side parking lot. Cars are not permitted to enter this lot after school.
Please note that our first day of school, Thursday, August 22nd, is a full day of school. Just as a reminder, the doors to TMS open at 7:40AM each morning for all students. Students are expected to be seated in homeroom by 7:50AM. Prompt arrival at school each morning will help your child start each day on a successful note.

D25 Summer Reading - Reach for the Stars
Click on this link for additional information regarding SUMMER READING!
District 25 Middle Schools are thrilled to present students with Summer Reading 2019: Reach for the Stars. We've carefully selected titles to give students an opportunity to read about different perspectives and life experiences. Each of the characters has a story to tell and in doing so they show a tremendous amount of strength, passion, perseverance, and hope.
The expectation is that every TMS student READ AT LEAST ONE BOOK....our hope is that students READ SEVERAL.
How many books do you think you can read when reading is a choice, not a chore?
