Hour of Code
December 9 -15, 2019
What is Hour of Code?
How To Run an Hour of Code
2. Plan when you will do your Hour of Code.
3. Help students pick an activity from the page above that is appropriate to their age level and interest. Tutorials are self directed and students can progress through them independently. However, it is recommended that you try the tutorial first so you can help them if questions come up.
4. Code!
5. Celebrate! Print certificates or stickers for your students. https://code.org/certificates and https://hourofcode.com/images/hour-of-code-stickers.pdf
No Computers? No Problem!
Introduce Coding and Inspire Your Students
Teacher Tips
- Allow your students to struggle and resolve - recognizing a mistake in their code and "de-bugging" it promotes problem solving and critical thinking.
- Guide students with questions - "Where did your program go wrong? How can you change it to achieve your goal?"
- Promote student success - hang their certificates or post completion stats for your school to see.
- Remind students that the Hour of Code activities are available online all year long - they can access them from home and continue their coding skills well after the Hour of Code has passed!
Ways To Participate in Hour of Code at your Campus
2. Participate for one period during library rotations or in elective classes.
3. Create an Hour of Code area in your library and encourage students to participate before or after school.
4. Print and post certificates.
5. Tweet about your event and tag @_annetteclark, @BeckyZalesnik, and @code.org
