Thin Slices of Gratitude
How do you like your deli meat sliced? I always ask for it to be “thin-sliced.” The Black Forest Ham just tastes better that way.
I’m cultivating the habit of “thin-slicing” my sense of gratitude also. This means that I am consciously thinking of and openly expressing gratitude for the thousands of little things and brief moments that so often pass by without notice. So rather than the usual: (grateful for good health, family, a sunny day, etc.), I'll try to get more specific.
That one rooster I hear crowing on a quiet early morning from my office.
The sounds of young children outside playing on the playground in the morning hours.
That 80's rock is still played on the radio - even though it is sometimes referred to as an 'oldie'.
The absence of growing (old) pains in my lower back.
Spotify.
Los Amigos chips and salsa.
The way my dogs wag their entire bodies when I get home and bring me their bone.
Diet Dr. Pepper.
Keyless start in my car.
My challenge to you over these next few weeks is to find the 'thin slices' you can be grateful for and acknowledge them.
~Kelly
