Welcome Back!
Happy 2016. We had a wonderful start last week. This past week, we spent a significant amount of time reviewing building expectations, classroom expectations, and routines. We reviewed our 7 habits and discussed the importance of our habits. The students were asked which habit was the most important, and I loved their responses. They felt it was a trick question because they are all important. Next week, we will continue to explore our learning in Geography, Math - Factors, Multiplies, & Patterns, Commonly Confused Words (like two, too, and to and they're, there, and their), Theme, and soon we will begin opinion writing. The kids have began exploring geography including the definition, topics within the concept, and specific locations. In math, we have been comparing and contrasting factors and multiples. Factors: basic facts that will be lower than the number we are solving. Multiples: multiplication or skip counting; the numbers will begin with the number we are solving and will be larger. In addition, we will be taking a mid-year test using iReady to determine growth and missing skills. Teachers have a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, so kids will take part of their iReady during this time. I cannot wait to see the growth we have made this year!
Missouri Geography & More
As we prepare to learn about Missouri's role in the Civil War, we are learning all about Missouri's geography in relation to location, place, region, movement, and human interactions. They wondered how I knew so much, so I share MY 4th grade Missouri Notebook with them. Ha!
What is Geography?
I love to allow kids to explore learning! Sometimes it takes a life of it's own or possibly a direction I hadn't "planned" that day, but it allows ownership and authentic conversations. I love it. We had a mini-lesson with the globe.
Learning looks like...
Learning doesn't mean sitting in a chair, listening or reading to inquire information. Learning looks like investigating and talking to your peers about what you find!

New Student!
We would like to welcome our new student, Emma, to our classroom. We are so excited for her to join us. She is going to challenge the boys who love math, and she is fits right in with the girls!
