A Message From Dr. Jeff Hyatt, Superintendent
We have had a great start to the school year and are looking forward to the coming months. September is when the school calendar starts getting very busy with student activities. I would encourage everyone to come out and support all of the bulldog participants in an athletic contest or educational department event. Our student groups are very active in several scheduled events during “Hootin an Hollarin”. Gainesville students have an exuberant sense of pride for their school and community.
For the first time in over 18 years we have students attending the South Central Career Center in West Plains. We have students getting specialized training in auto body, culinary arts, graphic design, welding, and carpentry this year. This redeveloped partnership with the South Central Career Center provides a great opportunity for the district.
Our district notification system is a continual work in progress for each building level office. It requires constant updating and management to keep it performing accurately. Please remember to keep us updated of any phone number or email changes that you have, including your child’s emergency contact numbers. It is important that we have your correct information on file should we need to contact you regarding your child. Starting this school year, we will focus on using the email and text alert system from our current student records system. Student grade card reports will also be going out to parent and guardians in an email format.
We are looking forward to the 2018-19 school year and all the exciting things to come for the Gainesville R-5 School District throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jeffrey L. Hyatt

JUNIOR HIGH / HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION
The District used a Google Form on the Chromebooks to collect parent and student information during registration this year. The majority of people seemed very excited they didn’t have to complete a stack of paperwork. The High School and Junior High also were able to collect emails for all but 18 parents.
9th and 10th grade students received their new Chromebooks. Many teachers are utilizing this resource to enhance and support their instruction.
Mid-Term grades are due Wednesday, September 12th and will be emailed to parents on Friday, September 14th.
Please remember to visit the Gainesville website at www.gainesvillebulldogs.com to view upcoming events and general information. Our Facebook page, Gainesville R-V School is also used actively to share information.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
Student Council has begun the year with an outstanding election assembly! Two teams decided to run for the offices of Student Council president and vice-president, and those teams had an opportunity to relate to the student body what their qualifications were during an assembly held on August 29, 2018. Cody Donley and Garrett Morgan presented a Family Feud game show to help illustrate their qualifications for being Student Council president and vice-president while their opponents Natalie Kiger and Eli Amyx presented a video based from The Office to illustrate their strengths if they were to be elected.
Voting was held after the assembly, and the student body elected Natalie Kiger and Eli Amyx as Student Council president and vice-president. Student Council will plan several assemblies throughout the year and will host Homecoming during the basketball season. Their first function is hosting a blood drive held in the high school library on September 27, 2018.
Other Student Council members for the 2018-2019 school year are: Audrey Lovan, Cooper High, Brexton Miller, Jaxon Britt, Erin McKinzie, Aiden Murphy, Ryan Poe, Hallee Donley, Jacob Overturf, Zoe Cleveland, Ruthanne Doebler, Daniel Miller, Randi Smith, Ben Pointer, Max Seals, Novalee Newkirk, Ashley Poe, Danielle Weber, Aburey Turingan, Kassandra Barnett, Nicole Donahue, Jake Leeker, Abby Freeman, Westin Wilson, and Ryelon Estes.

SOFTBALL UPDATE
This was our opening game. I feel that we came out too pumped up and made a lot of errors. This game does not show what type of team we are and I know the girls will improve.
9-4 @ Alton won 15-4
What a turnaround! We play the exact same team at their place and played really well. Erin McKinzie pitched the entire game with 8 strike outs and 2 walks with 4 hit batters. Cassie Carlo played amazing defense and Teagan Broderick did a great job behind the plate. Peyton Donley and Madison Trivitt went 2 for 3 each driving in 4 runs combined. Blakely Morrison went 1 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Collectively, the girls played very well and executed in some situations that we haven't executed before. I am proud of the turnaround and hope in carries over into the rest of the season.
Overall record:1-1
Upcoming games: Walnut Grove Tournament 9-8, Home vs Seymour on 9-11, and Home vs Ava on 9-13.

BASEBALL UPDATE
The Gainesville Baseball program is trying to establish a new culture of hard work in practice and competitiveness in games. We have 18 players that have came out to be a part of this year's team anchored by a good mix of Juniors and Seniors to go with a young and eager sophomore and freshman class. So far 3 games into the season we are 1-2 with losses to Dora and Mansfield and the one win coming against Norwood. Our kids are excited to accept the challenge of changing the baseball culture here at Gainesville.

FIRST GRADE
First grade has been learning how to read and recognize the color words and all about the primary and secondary colors! After reading the book Mouse Paint, students mixed frosting together to make the primary and secondary colors and enjoyed eating the frosting on a graham cracker.
